arrows lower your defence by 25%, but allow you to use shot skills.
shot skills are stronger than dagger skills, but are completely atk based, while dagger skills also get boosted by dagger atk and certain stats.

daggers are easier to use and make great combo fillers since they are fast and throwing knife costs 0 mp.
but arrows give bonus effects to hunter skills. you can only use the trap skills, but they are magic attacks, so you can deal more damage without the need of STR.

The skill para shot used with arrow gives +5% stability to magic attacks. Thats the main reason people prefer arrow mage nowadays

They are both pretty good. I'm using a dagger mage because I like having enough sp to use some support skills and bless. I find it kinda hard to make an arrow mage and use 22-27(37-42 after 150 skills become available) skill points in the support tree and 25 for a good bless. And still be able to use battle skills for magic up in them. For my type of build, I wouldn't be able to fully utilize an arrow mage as I'd also need quick draw(thought regular dagger mages sometimes use it too) and use longer combos. Mine are all 3-4 skills at most. Arrow mages also generate more aggro then dagger/shield mages.

Experiment with different builds while we still have free skill resets.

Try to get as much as possible today, I think the free rest ends today. Its what I saw in the news part in the information in toram about maintenance and compensations. That it was extended to today.

Literally any class can destroy proration coz missed/evaded skills still prorate in this game. Its the players decision if they want to do that or not tho.

Best way to find out is to try'em both out, it's what I did. :) I think tomorrow it'll be taken off, take advantage.
Since I started the game, I've always been shield. Tonight, a guildie suggested pewpew, so I tried it. Of the two, I sorta like Egg's pewpew a bit more. I generally keep a safe distance to begin with in boss battles and pewpew seems to hit the full combo everytime at mid to close range. With shield, I had difficulty hitting the full combo, always had to be in melee range and you might sacrifice your life if timing is bad, like I often did lol, but my experience isn't as good as other older players, but who knows, maybe that's something you'll like.
Advantages/disadvantages of both, it also depends on what game mode you like the most too.

Any difference between a level 5 para shot and a level 10 para?

At lvl5 only 5% for regular skills so halved 2% for magic skills. Lvl10 10% for regular skills and 5% for magic skills.
