I decided to work on my Blacksmith characters again today and wanted to try out getting extra potential by using Negative stats.
Before I was using Negative HP Regen%, but today when I tried it, I only got back 2 Potential. I'm pretty sure I used to get back more than that by adding negative stats.

Did the formula for how Negative Potential change?

-max% hp regen should be 21pot (or more bc I'm not capped yet) ^^

I have a War Bowgun with 45 potential, and when I try to apply
Natural HP Regen % to -4, I only get back 4 Potential points to use.

(On armor I only got 2 Potential back from -4 Natural HP Regen)

It's been a while since I've used my Blacksmiths, so possible I just forgot how much Potential is actually reclaimed by using Negative stats.

Ah, that might be why. I normally use my Tech smith for the upgrades, but read something that said that only the equipment Potential mattered, not the TECH value of the smith. Hrm. Now I have to go try again, heh.

Ah, well there ya go. These are the values I remembered.
Guess I have to keep using my Tech smith for Upgrades.
    Thanks for the help.

Does using a tech smith increase he success rate of stattig when overusing the pot such as with c999?

Yes, I had to use my Tech Smith to apply the stats and not my weapon smith.

Nope. The amount of Tech stat that your Blacksmith has does not increase the success rate of statting an equipment. To further clarify, when you apply stats to an equipment, as long as the amount of potential needed for the stats is within that of the equipment, the success rate is always 100%. If the amount of potential required exceeds that of the equipment's potential, the success rate of applying the stats is then determined by the total potential the equipment has. How much Tech stat your Blacksmith has at that point would not directly affect that success rate.

However, using a Tech Blacksmith to apply negative stats results in your equipment getting back more potential points. More potential points would result in higher chances of stat application (should the required potential exceed the equipment's potential).

    Summary
    • Tech stat does not affect success rate of adding stats to equipment
    • Tech stat however does affect the amount of potential you get back from adding a negative stat

What is the potential on the equipment you're adding the stats to? (Just wondering)

If the equipment's potential is 52. You might be able to add C999 at a higher rate. Have you tried adding the stats in three separate steps? Doing that should use lesser potential as compared to adding C999 in a single step.

    I.e.
    1. Add crit dmg 9, click ok.
    Uses -3 x 9pot= -27pot
    2. Add crit 9 (or crit% 9), click ok.
    Uses -1 x 9pot= -10pot or -11pot
(*NOTE: not exactly -9pot due to additional pot usage from same stat tree penalty)
    3. Add crit% 9 (or crit 9, depending on what you did for step2), click ok.
    Uses -1 x 9pot= -11pot or -12pot
(*NOTE: not exactly -9pot due to additional pot usage from same stat tree penalty)
Disclaimer: the amount of pot used mentioned in steps 2 and 3 is an estimate.

Statting c999 by doing the trick that Fina mentioned on a 52pot bgun or an armor should have a high success rate :/ you do have upgrade equipment to lvl10 right? And your chara should be lvl90 or up+..hmmmm

    49pot is enough for 100% c999 stats
