Does Defense Matter?

    I need to work on my bs as a full tank I have a dream of getting arco xtal add grylle and making tank armor get knight skills and some shield perhaps..

    it's like trying to figure out how accuracy works :p

    when i had my Magic Swordsman i tried normal and heavy armor to see what's better:
    the difference was roughly 100aspd vs 100mdef.
    that 100mdef reduced the damage from Astron's red zone attack from 468 to 368 :p
    (total mdef was 380 and 480)

    If that happened Ben, they'd get fired. Just throwing in random numbers for a mmo game and then later on ignoring to fix said problem will only add more problems down the road.

    you are still forgetting the essential part of an enemy atk and thats stability just by 1 atk you saw some day you can not confirm that 100def=100reduction.
    In fact thats impossible to occur as i confirmed that increase in def gives % based reduction.

    Take forest wolf for example it only does 15,16,17,18 when my def is 70 and it does 12,13,14 when my def is 700
    surely it didnt get reduced to 1,0
    now if i test at golden skeleton it will do 357,428 when my def is 70 and it does 285,342 when my def is 700.
    The reason why only 3dmg reduction at forest wolf and 100dmg reduction at golden skele is because the reduction is % based around 675def gain reduces dmg taken by 20%
    For it to have 700dmg reduction the dmg done on you needs to be 3500 at least.

    i got hit on purpose many times :p
    the damage varied by +-10 but the reduction was always near 100

    I have some questions :

    1. How does def/mdef, resistance, sanctuary and guard works? Is it true that it works like this?
    someone hits you by 1000 dmg -> def/mdef cuts it by 10% -> 900 -> then resistance cuts it by 50% -> 450 -> guarded, guard power at 50% -> final damage received 225?

    2. Is there any cap on resistance from equipment? I read that its on 50%. Does adding mental stat once resist hit 50% will give extra benefit other than ailment resistance?

    3. Is a pure tank really need to go full vit? With 7k-10k ish hp, can a tank survive end game boss / end game mini boss run with ease?

    Tanks in advance :)

    Edit : forgot something, does elemental resist stacks with magical/physical resistance?

    Are you implying def reduces dmg by flat numbers and not by%?

    1.)Base dmg calculation from boss check ---> Reduction by your total defence check ---> Reduction by your total resistance check ---> Guard rate check ---> If guarded reduction by guard power check ---> Final check if the dmg is below 10% of your max hp reduce it by 95% if sanctuary buff is present. So yep you are right in the order.

    2.)The data that i put in the other thread about resistance turned out false after further testing, theres actually no cap to resistance just like theres no cap to atk and dmg. Recently highest i got is 180% resistance resulting in more than 90% reduction ^^. By 50% i meant that once the resistance reaches 50% its no longer 1%resistance=1%reduction.
    Mtl stat ONLY gives ailment resistance the info about mtl giving physical and magical resistance is false, its still 3mtl=1% ailment resistance i believe.

    3.)If you want to tank in a really hard boss like Jade Nightmare with Legendary Gem Run i would not suggest anything less than pure vit to tank it. But if its regular everyday normal bosses sure you can tank them easily with 7k-10k.

    4.)Elemental resistance stacks with magical and physical resistance only thing is it works for a single ele only but also works for both physical and magical atks. Also they can be easily added as stats (1ele resistance=5pot) (1magical resistance=10pot) for armor if mana farming is easier again i would craft all the ele resistance armors (waiting for summer shells)

    no, it doesn't.
    it just happened to be like this in that situation :p

    edit:
    another strange thing - shell mask uses magic attacks. it hit me for 6 damage. when i changed equipment to get 6% magic resistance, the damage got reduced to 1...
    mdef was unchanged, only resistance was increased. :confused:

    It was a legendary gem run at jade nightmare.
    My def gears refine +B shield +C armor +B add = 38% resistance
    My armor stats 7% resistance
    My add stats 5% resistance
    Thats a total of 50% resistance
    Rest were just lots of potions and gems
    Cheese cake 50% wind resistance
    Wind gem 10% wind resistance
    Aegis gem 10% magic resistance
    Ginkgo nut rice 25% resistance
    Magic barrier wand 5% magic resistance
    And lastly as most of jade atks are powerful magic aegis for 30% magic resistance
    Resulting in an immense 180% magic resistance.
    I wanna try getting 12% ele resistance 7% resistance p/m 10% aggro armors for a few tough bosses after the cap to try reaching 200%+ resistance or get the brigandine npc slotted to see if i can set up a permanent sanctuary (95% reduction) :kappa:
