Magic device as primary weapon?

Ummmm. Ya so i sucesffully made anew mage currently lvl 40 made water staff. And i have one magic device which a feather thing. Anyways i found out if its my primary weapon the range of my wall increases . Is that something that happens cuz i am using that specific item or all magic dev. I leveled up dex and intel. And i wanna do damage so should i make staff my main weapon or magic device .....does it even matter?

 

Staff is more popular and stronger, though some skilled enough made good magic device mages,, though most use device for farming purposes, your wall range dose get bigger and your storm dose too, make sure you max Int first too by the way..

 

Magic Device increase your storm/wall range. Staff is usually stronger than MD (magic device) for mages. Full Int for higher mage damage.

It does.
Staff gives most of the skills a damage increase (the only exception is Impact, where Staff gives a tumble rate increase). It also makes every point in INT give you 4 MATK instead of 3 and lets you use a subweapon.
Magic Device has different effects with magic skills:
- A hit count increase (Arrows, Lances)
- A range increase (Wall, Blast, Storm)
- A status affliction rate increase (Javelin)
- A damage increase (Impact)
No subweapon allowed if used as main though.

 

Immediately I put 9 skill points in arrows wall javelin spear and blast each. 4in staff damage.6 in mana regeneration 1in chain cast. I think I have screwed up majorly. Can someone help.

 

What level is your main character? If it's not very high leveled (50 or lower) I would suggest starting a new character

 

Staff for bosses (or mobs that could potentially kill you, e.g. clocks or the grey muk-like monsters in that map) and md for farming. You could also just go for staff and have md as a sub if you want to increase the size of your wall and storm slightly. Just prioritize INT first.

 

for the billionst time:
MD sub does NOT work with staff because you can get only 1 skill bonus and main weapons have priority.
the negative side effect STILL APPLIES.

Umm guys i have book of oblivion. So like i have approx 110stat points ands 56skill points. What should i put them into

 

Did you really have to reset your skills though?

 

Idk i still havent. But in general if i use the book ill have these skill points. I calculated any suggestions?

 

I wouldn't waste your book of oblivion, it's better to just restart

I guess here on out it depends on what you want to be. The general population go for staff+shield (see guides section), then there are the staff fu, staff+arrow, staff+daggers, etc. Depending on what you see yourself using more, you could try following a prescribed build.
for magic skill tree, most would end at lvl 10 storm and impact, but I personally settled for lvl 7 impact and distributed the extra points elsewhere.

 

A year is a long time, and it's better to restart now than when you're at level 90 . -.
