New Member Struggles

Is it just me, being a newer member and all I've been seeing how the forum is fairly divided with new members having a hard time getting trusted or noticed compared to older members? Yes I do understand that the older members have earned it and what not, but some of these new members are not even given a chance or even a hello.

For me I have put some effort into building a foundation in the community and I'm doing fairly well but it's hard to get attention when some members are just shutout. Anyways this post is to just to get an incite on what others think and this is most certainly not pointed at everyone, there are some amazing members that are always active and willing to help out us "newer" members.

 

In game and on forums, yeah. Y'all newer guys get the short end of the stick (but the long end shoved up no mans land)
Its rough but hopefully someone will have your back. It ain't like the olden days no more...

 

We have had "New Members " scam " Well known " ones. Other than that, it's usually members that have higher messages and rates that are trusted. This is because they build their reputation up. It's unlikely for that player to them start scamming after all. But when they do, they end up being the most hated scammers of all haha.

Just give it time and you can eventually earn trust. When I started forums I made messages and soon started some services ( no longer available though) . Doing that brought up my and many other's reputations. It's all about patience and trust.

 

every older member were a new member at some point they also experienced what you experience right now.
Thats how getting social in forum works.. when you hang out more, you will be known and people start to trust u and more will vouch for you.

Very understandable about the scamming being at a all time high, don't think I've played a day where there wasn't a complaint about a scam but what do you guys think about some of those new members who post intros and don't even get a warm welcome, you guys are well-known I can see that and don't expect you to respond to every single new member but not everyone takes time to post their first thread in new member intro and then get no replies.

I agree that when it comes to the buy and sell section the trust has to be built up and that's what I am currently trying to do but that's not the main topic tbh.

Lol also please don't take this as a complaint or anything of that sort, it's more like a conversation I'm curious about.

 

There been to many new members lately after the forums update * cough * that it's near impossible to great all the members that joined now hahaha. I stopped saying " welcomes " after spring of 2015. It honestly gets to repetitive and just sounds like you're saying the same thing over and over without a feel of meaning.

I never made myself a introducing thread. I didn't need one and I was fine without one haha. A warm greeting is nice, but it just builds up expectations to much in my opinion.

I don't see this as a complain either. I take this as a genuine question. Talk with other members and get to be on their good side. Great ways of doing that is shout box and even in discussion threads.

 

Yeah I think I agree lol I'm sure that the older members did have a great start though back then, a lot of older members always say Toram was a lot better back then and was more active. Can't say if that's true or not lol I didn't know about the forums till I Google tips for blacksmithing and found it, ever since then I find the game more entertaining having the forums here with a lot of people's helpful threads.

I agree, I think sb would be best way to get to know members and to be completely honest I've used it only once haha but I'm sure I'll use it more now and I do appreciated the feed back. Also I'm sure the person posting in intro section won't think your "welcome" post is repetitive or not genuine, for me I had a couple members welcome me and was pretty nice seeing it. I'm fairly new to forums and never really used forums besides game information but I'm fairly liking making threads and reading what the community has to say.

 

Hey we all used to go through the same things. As for SB wise as what @kariin said. Best way to talk with other players in the forum community, Except for me because I'm permanently banned off SB for reasons that will never be discussed ever. (in a nutshell, don b returd ed). Uh...yeah.. So... Hey good luck! And welcome to the forums!

 

Being a relatively new member, I can sympathise with what you say. but there is a way out(and no, not giving up). First off, even if most people ignore you, just go ahead, interact and be friendly with them. eventually people will start liking you like the old members. once you have a fair amount of attention, open your service, or whatever else you wish to do. Unless the scammer is really persistent, they are not gonna go that far. once you have a few happy customers in your shop, people will come to your shop.
And yeah, you always have these amazing members to aid you with the steps above. the shout box is also a nice place to hang out if you want advice, just want to increase your popularity or just want to chill out
