Impact heavily depends on the build. For halberd, 1h, ... I don't know about 2h but probably not, brawlers, and fus (except gun), it is optional and not used by most people. For Snipe and mages, it is a must.
It costs 16 SP to "get" it, but from level 1 to 6 it has a cast time. (Not super long, but annoying. I think maybe 0.5-2s from my brief experience with partial Impact on my first character, who spent SP most of the way up to lv 70 so didn't have enough.) You want level 7 Impact for instant cast. Well, unless you expect to be in melee range and want it to tumble all the time; then you need level 10 Impact. That would be for tank mages and for those less common melee builds that use Impact -- but again, only if you care about the tumble chance. (Goes to 100% at level 10, but I don't remember whether or not that's only for staff.)

Impact is really useful for melee physical classes both as an insta cast magic skill to balance prorate and for its effect of half mp cost.
Worth taking for 2h as they use lots of physical attacks in their combo like astute, trigger slash and such.
It can be used at anti tumble bosses too with steeple jack talis.

I would say that it is worth it, it helps with proration unlike other skills, but you could also use Heavy Smash (puts fatigue on your target, fatigue lowers the damage your target deals), but HS would be bad for damage (because of proration). Essentially, Impact is better for dps, and HS is better for semi-tanking.

Because then "we'll" (I have a mage and non-mages) all be using 1 MP combos that prorate for you so that we don't have to autoattack up from 0 MP at the start of battles  Ban MP charge, master plan
I don't have a good measure for your sarcasm, but nowadays hybrids are those who use main DPS skills from two different skill trees (...except 1h and double sword are considered one tree for this definition), or who use DPS skills from a tree that doesn't line up with their main weapon (basically just fu builds). Impact is a deep splash, but a splash, not a hybrid. People take War Cry and Quick Draw on builds other than swords and archers, respectively; should those builds be termed hybrids?

i wonder why u consider impact when you are already at 130.
if you think youre enuf with blade skill in your combo til youre 130 then you dont need impact at all

Than Staff. Yes. Than Magic Device? Hur hur hur.

I'm absolutely sure he's joking around.

I don't see much reason not to get Impact LvL 7 myself. Especially since the Steeplejack Ring exist. I also don't believe 2H's have any good accessory slots that would make permently holding a Steeplejack Ring a problem either. Not like you guys rely on Tumble to do your work either.

However, if you can combo fine and feel that you don't need this combo enhancer. More power to you. Swordsman are blessed with a skill repitoire that combo well even without Impact iirc.

Unlike Brawler, where it almost feels like your skills are actively fighting your attempts to make effective combos.

If you don't pick up Impact, where are you thinking about putting those skill points?

Impact is useful, as is Javelin both instant casts from the perspective of a 1h user.

You can make effective combos with only (or mostly) martial skills, but from what I've found, I think that martial skills focus more on multi-classing/tasking and stun-locking, rather than full dps.

I don't believe I said you couldn't. I said that the skills actively fight you in doing so. Between the akward MP amounts, skill speeds, consideration of no flinch/tumble/stun, and making sure you get your combos to effectively use Triple Kick/Heavy Smash/Shell Break, it makes for some very akward circumstances for combo creation. That makes it feel like your actively fighting your skills to create effective combos. At least in comparison to other skill trees.

I agree with your opinion on the purpose of Brawler skills somewhat, but let's halt this discussion and focus on the topic to help the OP. Okay?
