1H Shield Pure Tank Build/Guide [Level Cap 130]

    Hello all! Before I start, these posts have provided invaluable help to me as a tank:


    This tank relies on AMPR(attack MP recovery) so it'll do a lot of normal attacks, which also helps with damage drop-off.

    Stats: VIT and MTL. No fixed ratio - add according to your style. Mine is 197 VIT and 150 MTL. Amount of HP gained from VIT increases as you level.

    Skills:

    Trigger Slash enhances AMPR and increases motion speed by 1(swifts next skill used).

    Quick draw enables chance to recover 100 MP upon successful use of any skill that uses up your MP. Awesome for MP management!

    Power wave allows you to do normal attack from a distance. It is essential for tanking higher difficulty bosses, especially those that moves or you need to distance yourself from often. Range is 5m at level 1, then +1m more at every even numbered level. At level 6, you can normal attack from 8m away.

    Shield bash 10 have a higher stun rate but level 5 will do for now.

    Parry 10 gives 20% damage reduction for physical attacks at 30% chance when the attack is not guarded. Assault attack is a very useful skill! For covering distance and interrupting certain boss skills, like Black Knight’s fractional damage skill.

    HP boost 10 adds 1k + 20% of your max HP.

    Combos:
    These are not fixed - tweak according to boss, party and duration of battle. I like to end mine with Trigger Slash for AMPR boost. Combos should be short and cost only 1 MP whenever possible.


    Astute>Binding Strike(Save)>Hard hit/Assault attack/Any 1 MP skill(Swift)>Trigger Slash(Swift)

    Astute>Binding Strike(Save)>Rage Sword(swift)>P.Defence(Swift)>Trigger Slash(Consec)

    Guardian combo:
    Protection/Aegis>Guardian(Save)>Binding Strike(Smite)

    Trigger Slash>Guardian(Save)>Binding Strike(Smite) - 2 MP but ensures guardian is set up~

    Equipment:

    Weapon: Toy Hammer - Nightmare Potum, Excavated Golem

    Shield: Black Shield of Delusion, Dark General Shield

    Armor: Brigandine(NPC), Fortuita Vestibus, Twilight Dress - Arcoiris, Tortuga, Boss Roga> Iconos(If no plans to max VIT)

    Additional: Jiangshi Hat, Adel Cape - Grylle, Corroded Knight Captain

    Accessory: Dark Bangle - Stone Mercenary>Memecoleous, Eerie>Tapir

    I have excluded event-limited equipment.

    At the time of this video, I have P.Defence 4, binding strike 2, maxed shield passives and power wave 3. Do note that the tank's perspective of battles are usually faster by a few seconds.



    Possible Future Growth:
    • Learn survival skill MP boost
    • Max shield bash
    • Exploit future new skills of other trees for tank purposes
    • Increase motion speed

    I can't fathom why'd you spend 20sp on the shield passives when you already have a huge amount of hp and 1k increase seems really small.

    Thanks for mentioning my guide I thought no one read it.
    Though certain things I would like to point out.
    1.)The shield passives only add 50HP per lvl so maxing both of them gives you a total of 1000hp, 30def and 30mdef which is extremely underwhelming for the amount of sp used. If you read my guide you would see how the miniscule amount of def is useless.
    2.)You need perfect defence to be at lvl10 as the cap it will heal is lower on low lvl and also maximum heal at lvl10 is 2k which is 10% for 20k hp so its better to actually handle your hp below 20k.
    3.)Hp boost is +1000maxHp and +20%maxHP not 2000

    ayame seems to clarify it ,

    I just wanna add another thing to consider, since you are not max vit I recon you take iconos xtal instead of arcoiris , since arcoiris' hp boost is base on your total raw hp which you base on your vit.

    Parry proc rate is 30% and reduction is 20% at lvl10 ONLY WORKS FOR PHYSICAL ATTACKS. And of course wont work together with guard.
    Making it yet another underwhelming skill.
    P def is the main skill that you wanna max first.

    Oh, I see, thanks for the corrections! Always thought they were 2k.

    Yes, I think I will be changing this build. Dropping those passives will free up alot of points. Arcoiris for when I finally max vit in the future, but I'll add iconos in alongside.
    I dig everywhere and couldn't find any info on parry, until this comment. Thx for the info.

    Just wanna say, hpup10 adds the 20% max hp first then adds the 1k, not adds 1k hp then adds 20%

    I thought it added 1000hp first then added +20% to total and then -20% of 1000 at lvl10 :eek: :eek: :eek:
