These people are those who network with other people or create a business that with some luck, become successful. The experience from Uni is very different from the experience you get from applying it yourself. You need to have both and those are invaluable knowledge. If you network correctly at Uni, especially with your professors, you're almost guaranteed an internship, shadow opportunity, etc somewhere if you do well. Your in CS. I usually toss profiles without a BS/MS degree unless they have certificates and have a significant amount of projects in the community and independently. People with the education have the buffer of fresh knowledge to apply and learn more. If you start from applying, it's hard to learn the education part of it. That's how it works.

Want to be like Zucker or Jobs or Gates who dropped out? No. You can't. 0%

Um well sure you can continue to study but:
U like don't really any of the courses in college and end up choosing the one u like the most. In the end u hate it and try out a new one. U continue to do that until ur like 35 and die of hunger because of no money.

    My genius twin!

Been reading the exchanges. Clearly, money is not an issue for @Sakuraid. She's just being modest for not stating that her family is filthy rich and so states options where to get financial means.

As for @Synonym responses, it gives me a ringing quote from Ryan Reynolds in a loop. " Don't be a fool. Stay in school.

Have a pet. In my case, I chose to raise a pack of maltese. White as snow.

Have a unique pet, just go to Mexico and hunt the dreaded Chupacabra!!! ^_^

Not filthy rich but mediocre, enough to travel to some countries, for example my brother managed to save enough money to go to UK tomorrow and meet his girlfriend that he have only talked to by Skype. Well he is a money spending prick so he will probably not have much left after that. No luxury two seated cars here or a big mansion.

Well, I was taking some shots in the dark, but with that information:
I agree more with what Syn says (not fully though). Why not focus on that first? You can plan some trips during the holidays (with your supportive parents, or work for one holiday, then travel the other, etc). I know studying is a chore, but if the job you want to do needs you to go to uni, you have to do it, and the sooner you're done with it, the "higher" your chances of finding a job and becoming independent (and then, plan lots of trips).
Oh well, as long as you know what you're doing, not going to dissuade you any further.

I completely agree with what you said, but what I'm saying is that college/uni is not the only way to find a job.
Not saying that people should drop uni; it's their choice, and getting a degree and experience is the better option. But you also said it yourself: profiles that show work and dedication (for example, a significant amount of projects) still catch your attention.
There is only one way to get a good and successful career, but there are many ways to have a stable and healthy life.

although i'll never tell anyone to skip college but there are very smart people out there that never went to college and still survived in life. there's no one way to live your life, if she feels like taking a year out of high school to travel, then she should do as she wishes. while i do agree that yes, you do need money to travel, but there are many other ways you can travel with little money, not in the US but i flew around europe for as little as $50 round trip - you just need to lose that luxury feeling, travel light and do a ton of research before going. starting college with a fresh mind and a want to study is better than going in there not wanting to focus is better in my opinion. :)

People who have that profile are born with talent and been "programming" since they were 7 years old. It's the bottom 1-2% of applications that avoid the trash bin. However, we still don't hire them because they lack the social experience of working with a team and other people. Communication is big. You get that experience when your professor gives you labs and projects to do.

Don't use your parents' income as an excuse to say you can do whatever you want. That's immature and irresponsible. Don't you feel in debt to your parents? Them paying tens of thousands of dollars from raising you to college and whatever you dream of doing. I don't think you deserve the privilege to travel because you take your parents for granted and have don't have any action plan. Especially with the attitude of: "I'm tired of high school." What do you EXPECT to gain from traveling? If you're HOPING for something to magical awake in your mind from travel, you might as well take some of your parents' money and go to a casino.

I apologize again for being harsh but you need to change your mindset before doing what you want. Because it's 110% off.

That's true. Communication is an important skill to have, especially at work. Some people have acquired that skill through other means (side projects, etc), but we're talking about the 0.1% of people who succeeded, and for people with a background similar to mine (sparing you the boring details and the off-topic-ception), college/uni is the best place to acquire that skill.
Ah well, shows how much I still have to learn about life. Thanks for the clarification Syn!

Also, for the rest of your comment, it hits harder than a 120k Snipe to the face, but it's the truth: we have to rely on ourselves and pay back what we owe to our parents.
