Best support skill: Gloria, protection, aegis or sanctuary?

Astron in Road to another World attacks with magic damage.
when my character had unremodelled armor, with 300 mdef he took 200 damage.
when i changed it to heavy armor, the mdef went up to 400 and he took only 100 damage.

and another one:
Gold Jelly in Aulada also attacks with magic.
casting Aegis Lv10 reduced the damage from 50 to 25 per hit.
casting Gloria reduced the damage to 1.

 

You are just testing with regular mobs test with bosses instead.

 

same with bosses.
Demon Gate's magic does 100 less damage if you have 100 more mdef.
red zones are just super strong and some special attacks also have extra effects.

 

I tested again for ya.
Became naked(no def gear and 70def) gs did 357,428 dmg
Equipped all gears (683 def) gs did 179,215 dmg
Now clearly 600 is more than 428 so why couldnt i see 1dmg
The direct subtraction wont work on boss atks every single build would be using gloria if that was the case.
Like i said early the system starts to filter reduction once it exceeds 50% as shown in my test.

 

i said some attacks have extra effects
Golden Skeleton could have physical pierce.
try Dark Mushroom, it doesn't have extra effects.

 

Sorry to break it for you but i tested at various places and i can never experience direct subtraction by def.
No matter if mob or boss i cant see direct subtraction occuring with increase in def.
Def/mdef is still the worst way to reduce dmg in this game.
You saw 1dmg is only possible if you were using melee barrier stat from mad doc.
Please show me ss/video to prove that it indeed is direct subtraction ^^.

 

tested against red jelly now.
looks like 10 points reduce damage by 1 (roughly).
it's probably a % calculation...
need to do more research. when i tested the magic swordsman, i tried normal and heavy armor to see what's better and the 100mdef difference it had was directly noticeable.

 

There are very few mobs/bosses that have high stability in their dmg sometimes change on 100def is not even noticeable if the dmg keeps changing so much.
I still remember to this day when refine used to increase def/mdef just like weapon it could have worked that way at that time
The resistance of protection/aegis could be 50% back then too
But right now resistance >>> def in terms of reduction of dmg.

 

alright, the next research project is def and mdef =(^.^)=

 

if you are desperate for support rank, just use bless in your combos. Clearly for me, neither four of them are the best support skills
