If we are talking about "visible" (not really visible) darkness, in other words, shadows, "dark tints", etc, then were are referring to the partial or complete absence of light. Even though we "see shadows", the technical way to put it is that we are actually unable to completely visibly recognize an "image" that is not receiving enough light to be reflected (or diffracted). As a result we see the image in a "darker tone" resulting in what we call shadows (cast by objects blocking light rays), or darkness (a room with no light). As described by @Synonym and @AmatusAnathema light is part of the visible spectrum and "darkness" is a result of lack of ability (sensors) to visibly perceive an image with a lacking amount of light. Now if we are talking about metaphorical shadows, then...well let's just say that's kinda broad, and should be up for a later discussion...

Kinda of...since heat (chemistry) is the energy that flows from one object to another due to the differences in their temperatures

So heat can't really be attributed to a singular object. So cold is more like the absence of thermal energy to some extent i guess? I don't want to go into discussions about "absolute zero" cause I'm not very knowledgeable in that subject matter...

Not so much "cold is the absence of heat" but rather "low, orderly kinetic energy is the absence of high, disorderly kinetic energy", which, of course is determined by heat and pressure. Simply explained, ice would be low, orderly as the h2o molecules begin to slow down as they lose kinetic energy, forming a solid. Steam, on the other hand, is what is produced when h2o molecules are given more kinetic energy, causing them to grow more disorderly and free, forming a gas.
