Hello everyone! This guide is about the INT/LUK Farming Mage! If you dislike Mages or have little interest in them, but recognize the need for a good farming character, then this guide is for you! (And other people too :3)

The Farming Mage specializes in one thing, farming. They are the most efficient farmers in the game and make the dull, boring life of farming quicker. Coincidentally, this style of Mage is cheap and easy to make, contributing more to its' nature. Without further ado, let's begin!

    STEP 1 - Stats:

Farming Mages value 2 stats above all else, MATK and LUK/Drop Rate, while -Aggro, CSPD, HP, and MP are situational. Anything that fits into one of these 4 stats is valuable to a farming Mage.

Before you choose the stats for your Mage, you should establish what you plan to be farming the most with your Farming Mage. As a rule of thumb, the stronger mob you farm, the more INT you should have, and vice versa.

    For Bosses:
    216 INT + 1 LUK <-----> 166 INT + 50 LUK

For Normal Skeletons, Shell Masks, etc.:
    151 INT + 65 LUK <-----> 50 INT + 156 LUK

Don't forget about Elemental Advantages! Use Fire against Shell Masks, Light against Normal Skeletons, etc. The bonus +10% MATK is extremely important. It will allow you to have more LUK!

    1 INT equals:
    +4 MATK
    +1 MDEF
    +0.2 ASPD
    +0.1 MP

    and 1 LUK equals:
    +0.1% Drop Rate

So, with these stats in mind, you can see that the stats you choose are flexible and player-dependent. Combined with stats and equipment your Drop Rate can vary from +10% to +20%, or more!

    STEP 2 - Skills:

Please keep in mind that the required skills are the core skills that you need to have. You will have plenty of extra skill points once you finish this part, so your final build will depend on you!

121 maximum skill points at Level 80.

    Required:

    - 5 points - Magic: Arrows
    - 10 points - Magic: Wall
*** Leave Wall at Level 5 if you have access to Storm. Storm is by far the superior farming skill for almost every mob. You can still max Wall, but you won't be using it too much.
    - 10 points - Magic: Mastery
    - 10 points - MP Charge
    - 10 points - Drop Rate UP

If you have Level 3 Magic Skills:

    - 5 points - Magic: Javelin
    - 5 points - Magic: Lances
    - 7 to 10 points - Magic: Impact
*** Get 10 points if you want a higher Tumble rate. Leave it at 7 if you don't need it though.
    - 5 points - Magic: Blast
    - 10 points - Magic: Storm

Level 3 Magic Skills are good because:

    - Impact and Storm allow you to farm with less MATK.
    - Thus less INT is needed.
    - This means you can put more points into LUK.
    - Therefore, you can farm more materials in less time.
    - You profit, lol.

So, Impact + Storm = Profit. Good to know! ^^

    Good, regardless of character, optional:

    - 5 points - Safe Rest
    - 10 points - HP Boost
    > +100 HP per level.

    - 5 points - Short Rest
    - 10 points - MP Boost
    > +30 MP per level.

Get these depending on your survival needs.

    Support Style Skills: - OPTIONAL

Logically, since you are not designed for (very) high damage, tanking, nor breaking, a support variation of the Farming Mage is a good choice. Your focus will be on keeping your party alive so you can reap the benefits of their survival. You will have more INT than other farming Mages that farm weaker mobs, but it is needed since you want to kill these bosses in a timely fashion.

For equipment, refer to Step 3 for equipment options. ^^ (Be sure to have -Aggro!)

+ Core skills, other skills are optional,
    - 5 or 10 points - Bless
    - 10 points - Gloria
    > +300% DEF and MDEF for 20 seconds for the entire party. (Gloria)
    > Your Bless won't be as strong as other Mages since you're not full INT, but it's still decent in some situations.

    - 5 points - Shield Mastery
    > required for
    - 1 point - Shield Bash
    > Decent chance of landing a 5 second stun for 100 MP? Sign me up!
    > This 20 second (or so) cooldown on the stun, so don't spam this. A good way to know that you can use it again is when your Gloria buff disappears.
    > This will miss against bosses with high dodge, so let someone else break for you.

    - 10 points - Protection, and
    - 10 points - Aegis
    > Cast Protection and Aegis on the same player.
    > The bonus DEF from Protection outweighs the negative DEF from Aegis and vice versa for +25% DEF and MDEF.
    > This number may not be 100% accurate, but a player with both Protection and Aegis buffs will receive positive bonus DEF and MDEF.

    - 5 or 10 points - Mini Heal
    - 5 or 10 points - Recovery
    > Instantly removes one status ailment from your target. (at level 5, removes two statuses at level 10) Great for removing Poison, Ignite, Stun, and Weakness ailments.
    - 10 points - Sanctuary
    > The more HP you have, the stronger this skill becomes. Even though you're a farming Mage, you can get 500 HP each both level 10 Force Shield and level 10 Magical Shield, 1000 HP from level 10 HP Boost, and a Boss Roga xtal (if you manage to get one) for another 1000 HP.
    > Great for countering Boss AoE attacks.
These are not the only skills you could have, but good starters. See what skills work best for you!

    DPS Style Skills: - OPTIONAL

If you prefer damage, and lots of it, then this section is for you! In fact, you can build a pure DPS Mage and simply get the Drop Rate UP skill for +10% Drop Rate, and boom! you're a Farming Mage! xD

So, instead of me listing all of DPS Mage skills, I will link you to my DPS Mage Guide so you can learn about that style of Mage!

    ><><><><

    COMBOS:

    For Farming (weaker enemies):

    - Magic: Wall > MP Charge
    - Magic: Storm > MP Charge
    - Magic: Impact > Magic: Storm (Consecutive or Smite) > MP Charge

    - Magic: Impact > Magic: Wall (Consecutive or Smite) > MP Charge

Use whatever combo you have the skills and damage for. All of them work well, so it's your choice of what to use.

    For Boss fights:

With the addition of Level 3 Magic skills, Magic combos are much more flexible than they used to be. Instead of posting a whole list of combos, here is a basic formula you can use as a combo formula.

    - DPS Combos:

Step 1: Magic: Arrows or Magic: Impact

Step 2: Main damage spell, typically with the Smite effect.
    > Magic: Wall, Lances, Blast, or Storm

Step 3: Skill to offset negative Smite effect.
    > MP Charge, Throwing Knife, Holy Fist, Assault Attack

    Examples:

    - Magic: Arrows > Magic: Lances (Smite) > MP Charge. This is your safest 3-skill damage combo

    - Magic: Impact > Magic: Storm (Smite) > Holy Fist. This is your strongest damage combo.

    - Support Combos:

The rule of thumb here is that the consecutive buff is your best friend; any MP you can save is great! There aren't any specific combos here, because everyone's skills are different. See what works for you and if you're not sure of what to use, please ask ^^

STEP 3 - Equipment: (Partially updated)

A farming Mage values MATK and +Drop Rate% the most, with CSPD and -Aggro being useful as well, especially if you have support skills.

    - A few notes before you read -

    1) Set your targeting to "Far" while farming. You will target a mob 8-12m away instead of 1-5m away. This is good because, even with a Magic Device, you can still be flinched while casting Wall; use this setting to cast Wall safely.

    2) Switch weapons depending on your needs. Especially when it comes to elements. The bonus 10% damage from having the element advantage is much needed since you are slightly lacking in damage.
    Weapon -
    > Switch your weapon depending on the element of the target. (Water > Fire > Earth > Wind > Water... etc., Light <-> Dark)

    - Ooze Staff, Player-Made (+Element)
    - Elfflame, Player-Made (+Element)

    - Irogeon, Eerie Crystal (Dark Element, MaxMP +150, MaxHP -5%)

    - Whirlwind, Blacksmith (Wind Element, MATK +1%, Short Range Damage +1%)
    - Elflame, Blacksmith (Fire Element, MaxMP +100, Magic Resistance +2%, Fire Resistance +3%)
    - Crystal Wings, Astol (Light Element, Short Range Damage +3%, Dodge +10%, Attack Speed +300)

    Sub-Weapon -

    - Any shield if you're using Shield skills.
    - Magic Dagger, Blacksmith (MP Recovery +1, Evasion +5%, CSPD +50)

    Armor -

    - Straye Garb, Blacksmith or Quest (HP +100, MP +100)
    - Green Dragon Garb, Forestia (MATK +1%, Magic Resistance +5%, Physical Resistance -10%, Aggro -10%)
    - Aqua Garb, Astol (ATK +1%, MATK +1%, Dodge +10%, MP +100)
    - Any player made armor with +INT, +INT%, +MATK%, or +Drop Rate.

    Additional Gear -

    - Mining Bag, Emblem (+1% Drop Rate)
    > Emblem for it is 80,000m traveled.
    > If you toss yours, it's impossible to get back, so use Crystal Earrings or Nun Hat instead.

    - Crystal Earrings, Silver Roar (+300 MP)
    - Nun Hat, Blacksmith (CSPD +200, Ailment Resistance +7%, Stability +3%)
    - Circlet (MATK +1%, Natural MP Regen +4, Magic Resistance +1%)
    - Soda Potum Hat (MATK +1%, Critical Damage +1, Water Resistance +10%, Wind Resistance -10%)

    Ring - 1 slot
    - Spy's Talisman, Blacksmith (MP +250, Aggro -25%)
    - Magic Talisman II, Blacksmith (MP +300, INT +4)

    Crystas -
    - HP +100 (Roars, Ruined Temple A2 and A3)
    - MP +50 (Raffys, Ruined Temple Town or Suedor Cliff)
    - MP +100 (Voda Roars, Lutaros Cavern Entrance)
    - CSPD +20 (Night Mushrooms, Isthmus of Kaus)
    - Seltiro, Additional Gear Only (+300 CSPD, -150 MP)
    - Demon's Gate, Weapon Only (+3% MATK, +2%DEX, +1 Cast Speed)
    - Golden Potum, Ring Only (+1% Drop Rate)

I hope you learned a thing or two about the INT/LUK Farm Mage setup, and, more importantly, made it easier for you to make your own Mage build with this guide! :3

Thanks for reading and good luck!

Libra can work with Impact > Storm, since Storm is strong enough to offset the -50% MATK.

As for boss fights, that's your problem.... xP

If you're just farming mobs then use a MDev, since impact does x2 dmg with mdevs and I'm quoting mugami here but apparently walls radius is larger

Ooze staff is currently the highest atk staff in the game. For the armor I think it depends on what ur farming.

Ive tested your theories nd they work perfect for what i was lookimg for! I know my stun/breaker mage is already OP amd awesome, and so is my support mage, but with this farming mage guide i have completed my mage set FINALLY and all thanks to you! Much appreciation.

Power Wave for DPS... I personally don't use it, but...! I can see it being very useful if you're aiming to affect Damage Drop-off and being safe.

So, based on that logic, I think Power Wave is definitely a viable option for DPS, and if it's working for you, then by all means do it. ^.^

Btw, what's the range of Power Wave at levels 5 and 10?
I'm glad it's working for you! It's working!

The range for level 5 PW isnt that much different to the range of m.devices so level isnt safe enough for dropoff >.< for me that is...i cant tell the specifics... maintenance got me before even testing it on bosses

Boss Drop rates are largely improved, except for one area, and that is xtals. Let me explain why.

Xtals, to begin with, have a very low base drop rate. LUK, Drop Rate UP, and Mining Bag all increase the percentage of each drop occurring. A percentage of a small number is very small, even with large percentages, and vice versa.

So, for example, an xtal drop rate is 0.5%, then 15% of 0.5% only increases the xtal drop rate to 0.65%. That barely makes a difference at all. Compare that to 15% of, say, the 10% drop rate of a Fiery Gem. 15% of 10% increases the drop rate of a Fiery Gem to 11.5%. See the difference? (I'm using these numbers for the sake of explanation, these are not the actual drop rates xD)

Just fyi, I'm not sure of how exactly drops are calculated, but at the end of the day, a percentage of a small number is very small, even with large percentages.

Overall, using a LUK character gives you almost no advantage over any other character when farming for xtals. The best advice I can give you for xtal farming is to increase your quantity of kills, not your quality of each drop.

I'll be updating this soon. Been busy irl and have a good amount of things to change.

If you have anymore questions, ask away lol. Since there are an abundance of DPS players and almost no one with Support Skills, boss fights should prove to be fruitful for you.

I recommend being in a party with strong physical DPS classes like 2Hs and Snipers, because your influx of Magic Damage will make their Physical Damage even stronger.
