I noticed in yesterday's news, timid and calm can gain xp under certain circumstances. I realize that probably means without attacking, but I wish they would spell it out more and tell us.

I know gentle can get exp even tho it just hide in the back. I assume Timid also the same ^^. But to be fair, I guess they can't leech all mobs in a storm (need test again). My assumption is when we hit more than 1 mob, the pet choose one of them as its target and they get exp only from that 1 monster.

Aw ty for the info^^ guess I missed that when reading the guide, but I'm into something else, the past 6 times I've fed my pet (the same pet) I use the higher end food and observed the bonus, both times I used the stanima food, I get the exp up boost, both times I used the delicious, I get the nature hp boost, and both times I used the high quality I got discipline success boost, idk if this is just a big coincidence but ima test it further, maybe this is set for every pet? Or every pet has it pre-set food that gives it a different bonus? (The pet I meantioned earlier was stray caught if that makes a difference)

I think it's random, but noted, gonna observe more too. I usually gives the 100s food to capped affinity pet coz I'm cheap XD, n they usually got 10% exp bonus

    I got a few questions.
    1) why cant i capture any kind of roar? Tried with nightmare with tamer lvl 52 and a message would appear with Unusable on this Target. I hadnt used a cage on it before, i even tried starting with cage and weaken it quickly but i would get the same message. I used a cage on a Greg with my tamer still lvl 52 and the timer appeared. (I have actually only tried Wind and Nightmare Roar)
    2) does the wep my tamer use affect the captured pets wep? My tamer uses MD and almost all mobs ive captured have MD as their weps.

    Yea i
noticed that too. I used Storm for bnuts and my pets lvled very slow, then i started to kill one by one and it lvled considerably quicker.

1: You can't catch some mobs, no matter what your level is. Blame Asobimo

2: I'm pretty sure it's just random, because I caught a lot of different pets while wearing a 2h

It depends on your pet's lv. When low level, better kill normal mob with high exp (i.e. Stone soldier, dragonewt). The reason is because low lv boss dont give that much exp, n u wasting time loading boss fight. But on higher lv when there is no more normal mobs with good exp, try mini boss or boss. Remember that u get exp penalty when fighting mobs that is too far from your level, so try to not exceed 30 lvls difference

timid only restricts short range attacks, it can still use long range attacks.
since it uses a Bow, all attacks would be ranged ;)

skills do not have a predefined range, it changes with the pets weapon and/or nature.
i had the magic skill Blinding Flash on a sword and a staff pet.
the sword normally attacks at close range, but could cast magic at mid range.
the staff can choose between short or long range attacks, and casts magic at long range.

@Reverberate : yups, as @Red_Fox said. Also skill profiency goes up as you level your pet, it doesn't have to cast the skill. I.e. when affinity 0%, my pet never skill, yet its skill still got a level up. Other example, passive skill that cannot be used also got leveled.
