Totally new here, haven't done too much with my character because I'm researching builds so I don't mess up on the way lol. Was wondering if mages can use swords at all in this game and if there is a magic swordsman-esque build in this game like there is Enchanter in Iruna? Thanks for any info

You could, but it wouldn't be very practical due to having really low MATK. However, if you are looking for a mage that has high ATK and MATK, then you should just use a staff and spend a few points on STR.

It would be a very difficult build to make. But, now that we can max a whole skill maybe it won't be that difficult anymore. The problem though so that magic attack and attack don't really go with each other and having a close combat class with a range class combined it can be quite difficult.

Couldn't we use that magic skill to up the range of auto attacks?
Or we can use that aoe explody skill (not the blast one) from the Mage if you wanna do cqb?

Eh. Range doesn't really matter for a regular 1h. The explode skill can be a good skill I guess for that hybrid.

The biggest problem with a sword-Mage now is damage.

With a 1h sword, you gain 2 atk and 1 matk per DEX.
You gain 3 matk per INT versus 4 with staff.
Storm, the most damaging Mage skill currently available, gains 100% extra damage to staff.

Therefore, if you go DEX route, you only get 25% of the magic attack power and you don't get the skill bonus.

If you go pure INT, you don't get atk growth, so your sword skills do minimal damage, if not 1s.

If you go with a mixture of DEX and INT, you will end up with poor damage on both ends that will keep you entertained until lvl 60ish, before you realize that the gap between your damage and others are becoming apparent.

OP wanted an Enchanter type in Iruna, a staff-fu is sorta in the opposite direction. Enchanters uses magic swords and deal elemental damages, proc auto-elemental-counter-attacks. It's like a magical porcupine ^^

It's one of my all time favorite class available in MMOs ^^

The link below is somewhat similar or exactly identical to the video you've provided.

and was coined, Sword-fu/Staff-fu on another thread, specifically for Brawlers.....now that said, I wonder for bowguns (gun appearance) with kungfu like skills if they'll call it something like Grammaton build. Who knows. I, myself is still learning :p

Off topic: To be honest though, there isn't a significant difference apart from the class you chose from the getgo (e.g., you can be a mage and learn another path and call it whatever, but when visiting another class discussion, an identical build is made and is named completely different. In this case, Sword Mage versus Sword/Staff-fu). In my opinion, all these builds, not specific to its truest skill path, are hybrids. I guess it's all semantics. This is the first mmorpg, apart from final fantasy, that a character can be diversed in their selected crafts. I'm not complaining. I like the open class skill customization. In other mmorpg, if you select a specific class, you are only given a specific skill tree for that chosen class (i.e., if you select a mage, you have spells only available to you. None of that bash skills that a warrior has).

sword and MD would work, but i don't know if it's good. i have seen japanese people using it and since the gear is made for it, i tried to make one, but the damage is too low.
but the gear is around lv70 and the first magic sword is available from lv60, so i guess you have to play a swordsman first and add magic later. that should work ;)

Actually pure sword build in toram is like swordmage, cos the sword skill tree have some element on the skill,,
-Spiral Air: perform wind element (but, it doesnt affect to the enemies weakness)
-Tempest Sword: shooting moon slice tht after hit the enemies, it will perform storm, the storm depends on the element on ur sword,, if u use Sword with fire element, the Tempest Sword will generate Fire Storm, if dark element, it will generate to be dark storm,, The storm animation will be different depends on ur element,, (its affect the enemies weakness)
So, this skill make the swordman in toram to be swordmage,,

I tried a sword mage, result = disappointing DPS compared to mainstream, but really fun.

Stats dex = int (you want your sword strikes and astute to hit and do appreciable damage....right?)
    1 int = 3 Matk for swordies, 1 dec = 2 atk, 3 Cspd, 1 hit, and 1 Matk for swordies
I focused on smited impact and javelin (MD equipped for maximum impact damage but -15% damage on astute). Sword used isn't a magic type (1st Anniversary Sword).

    The long combos:
Astute > Trigger lvl 1-5 (save) > Javelin (smite) > Hard hit (cons) > Impact (smite) > Wall (cons) / Lances (cons) /holy fist (cons)/ arrows (cons)
    =2mp
If u get tempest (makes it look even cooler)/sneak (if u hate tanking)
Astute > Tempest lvl 1/sneak lvl 10 (save) >Trigger lvl 6-10 (cons) > Javelin (smite) > Hard hit (cons) > Impact (smite) > Wall (cons) / Lances (cons) /holy fist (cons)/ arrows (cons)
    = 1mp
    The short Combos:
Astute > Hard hit (cons) > Impact (cons) > Trigger Slah (cons) > Javelin (cons)
    no flinch?

Catch? You can tumble and flinch. Having a rare build makes you feel good. it can solo but not too well, it cant tank, but you are almost guaranteed to get breaker. (2 flinches and a tumble in a combo)
