Tank: 1H Sword + Shield (LVL 150 cap)

Tank: 1h Sword+Shield​

Hi everyone. I've been getting quite a few questions about my 1H tank build so I'm here to share it. I'm no expert but this is what has worked for me. This tank is meant to hold aggro though a combination of sword skills and aggro equipment while throwing in a few interrupt skills.

STATS:
VIT:255/DEX:1//MTL:50/INT:93​

VIT is going to be your main stat in this, increasing your hp and your def.

MTL is going to be your personal stat. It increases resistances to damage. Ailment resistance from this will help you not deal with so many status problems. This can also stop bosses from flinching and stunning you.

DEX Help increase accuracy for attacks

INT is an important stat that will be built up more later. By adding to this you increase your mdef.

Refine your armor and add gear as high as possible for best resistance and damage reduction. Toy hammer does not need refinement
SWORD
Toy Hammer – Evil Magic Sword/Aranea
Evil Magic Sword is preferred but if you can’t afford it aranea is a good alternative ​

SHIELD​

Dark General's Shield +E or up (30% aggro)​

ARMOR
These work best in reducing damage more then having high hp from player made armor.​

- Brigandine (NPC version) - (for bosses except light and dark elements)

- Twighlight dress (boss drop)- for bosses that are light/dark element. Compensate -500 aspd with giga speed potion
– Arcoiris xtal/ Iconos xtal
-iconos will give more hp as of right now but if you have arco save them for later at higher level.​

ADDITIONAL GEAR​

Jiangshi Hat +E or up - Candela II/ Dusk Machina/Grylle
Circle of Order - Dusk Machina/Grylle

If you are able to get candela I suggest sticking with jiangshi to compensate the mp loss
I know both Dusk Machina and candela are expensive now so I’m leaving Grylle up as a third option ​

SPECIAL GEAR​

Dark Fighter Bangle (25% aggro) - Tapir/Memecoleous

Total aggro with all aggro gears = 64%​

With memecoleous = 68%​

*Note: I do not recommend getting nurethoth mask as the -30% ailment resistance will counter the points you put in the mental stat.


*The skills in red are important and ones you should focus on getting first

*For the skill guardian refine your shield to at least +E for good results. The higher the refinement the better this move is

** For P. Defense I found best to just cast manually to reduce attacks to zero. No need to spam. Just cast when needed. Timing makes the difference. Heals over 2k hp on me when activated.

Guardian Combo

Astute>Guardian(save)>Shield Bash(swift)>Rage Sword(swift)>Trigger Slash(swift)- 100 mp

-Depending on boss you can switch shield bash with flash stab if you can't interrupt boss.

Astute> Guardian (save) > shield bash/assault attack/flash stab (swift) > binding strike (swift)>Rage sword (swift) > Trigger slash (cons) - 100 mp (for when trigger slash costs 2 mp)​

Sanctuary Combo

Flash Stab> Trigger Slash(save)> Sanctuary(cons)>astute/hard hit/shield bash(swift)- 100 mp

- Use either astute, hard hit or Shield bash as ender depending on boss you are fighting.

Flash Stab> Trigger Slash (save) > sanctuary (cons) - 100 mp (For when trigger slash costs 2 mp)​

Secondary Aggro Combo

Assault Attack> Trigger Slash (save)> Binding Strike (swift)> Rage Sword (cons)> - 100 mp

- keep this as second combo. Only use guardian in first combo. This is good for backup when guardian is harder to cast and to keep up aggro for longer battles​

*With guardian in combo make use of trigger slash at the end with the mp recovery from shield which will speed up your auto attacks.

These are all just some examples of basic combos. Be open to making your own that will best utilize on the boss you are battling. There may be times you won’t be able to cast guardian easily and some bosses might move too much to use sanctuary. ​

Manually cast protection or aegis depending on boss you are fighting
Cast Provoke for quick aggro recovery when needed

Note: I have noticed with guardian in combo I don't need to use combo as often to keep aggro. So use this to your advantage and keep the boss away from other party members and use interrupts manually like shield bash and hard hit to protect yourself and party members from bosses attacks like aoe. Timing makes all the difference when stopping bosses.

Very nice pure tank build if you really can hold aggro vs Gun Fu, etc. You could also open combo with Assault Attack Lv1 as it carries you directly to the enemy so you don't waste time walking, it is a non-flinch/non-tumble skill and with shield it has a chance to deal a knock-back.

 

I'm not sure. I would have to test it.

 

Thank you very much. And yes. I can add that you can switch Holy Fist and assault attack around since they cost the same mp. I just know from experience it's not always good to start with assault attack depending on the boss. As you will charge into an attack.

Yes it works well there too. I usually don't use combos a lot there though and stick to hard hit and shield bash as that will stop sg. You just have to decide depending how much mp you have left

 

Putting points in vit will help. Also getting equipment like hero scarf will give you 1000 hp plus 5% vit. I recommend that more than nure mask because of the negative stats on nure mask. Also armor npc blacksmith plate armor. It gives you 10% hp I recommend this too if you need more aggro. Boss drop knight armor which gives you 300hp and 3% hp. Last maxing the skills force shield and magical shield will give you 1000 hp when equipping a shield. I hope this helps.
