I've been wondering what kind of tank to make. Currently I have Precaria's Infinite mana tank build but that one is pretty outdated and it solely relies on spamming one combo which is terrible for proration. I've been sifting through all the different builds people have made but I'm not sure which type would be the best and by best I mean good proration, good aggro, and of course fun. Staff tank builds have been a turn off for me though. Can anyone give me some suggestions on what to try?

Most tanks nowadays are not basically built like the days of yore. Back then, tanks are just dancing meat and nothing else. Vit first is the grand rule of thumb.

Times have changed and the meaty tank have lost its value due to aggro management(new boss are vegetarians and prefer to eat soft victims like mages and archers) and of course the fractional damages( my uncle used to say, the longer your hotdog, the higher chance it will break on stress).

Nowadays, vit plays only as 2nd stat. And the tank evolved in to an attacker that have meaty defence.(2 roles! FTW!)

Uhhh sure. I get that tanks cant just be a all vit type but I'm still trying to decide on which ones to try. I've already tested brawler tanks and mage tanks which I'm trying to move away from. Is there any that comes to mind that I could test out?

Try katana + dagger tank. I am building one myself. High guard power while still dishing out decent damage can be either full vit or full str rest vit

It can hold aggro properly by a few aggro% gears theres many high mp cost skills as you can see especially hasso which is guaranteed 500aggro if enemy is in the range as it never misses or gets evaded. Proration as well its really easy as meikyo gives high crit rate to auto attacks so you dont need 100crit weapon like drills or toy hammer.

It wont be as effective as shield tank with guardian and pdef but its still pretty good I would say.

Mine is 1h shield (semi dps tank). 75 vit, rest dex. Guardian, warcry and interruption skills (sparingly/sensibly!) to maintain aggro... nowadays i focus more on high aspd to recover mp and prorate for a pt, with bulky crit gears. My go-to combo is only [pdef -> astute (con)] to take the big boss hits and maintain accuracy (with astute crit buff ) of auto attacks. Throw in a shield bash (no combo) for stun every 30 secs. I also have Binding strike which i enable when its ok to use AOE skills (i.e. don't use it when farming mini bosses as you'll aggro regular mobs). A solid initiation combo I use is trigger slash -> guardian (save) -> warcry (smite).

Overall I'm pretty happy with it. =)

Also, it doubles as a great merc if you throw a BG on it (high acc, decent dmg) before switching to another char.

shield+anything is still the best tankers out there for me... Guardian by itself can hold a lot of aggro

Every other non-guardian builds need a strict regiment of well timed skills to maintain high proration and aggro
