whatever you think looks cool ;)

but some things like Dual Swords are very complex and thus not beginner-friendly.
the same goes for the Magic Swordsman (or any of it's variations).

i probably recommend mage as first character- the ability to farm asked materials be it on normal Mobs or Boss is a good way to make spina so you have a good base b4 discovering other classes

Mage - For easy material farming en masse. If it's not your first character you'll be making one anyway more than likely.

Swordsman - Strong start that doesn't taper off and has easy straightforward builds. Weapons and starting gear are cheap to start off. Bosses well with cheap gear.

Halberd - Expensive gear end game, but easy starting point for most new players. Very strong.

Bow/bowgun - Easy to start and very straight forward builds alongside cheap entry weapons. Arrows allow elemental advantages easily with arrows.

Stray away from Katana/Brawler/Dual Wield until you've experienced the game enough to decide on what kind of build you'd like for these.

Starting a tank build (with interrupt and stun skills) would immediately make you the centre of boss parties, before you can gear up enough to compete for DPS ranks. So go for breaker and tank ranks first!
Also, if you use 1h shield, you can abuse warcry to compete for support rank as well (AND its a good skill to maintain aggro)

Katana is a dps tank if you can use it correctly (Zantei's counter does alot of dmg and scales with Dex), Dual Wield is expensive to upkeep (Due to using 2 weapons) but can allow for more combo potential as you can use all blade skills as a Dual Wield and also get enhanced MP regenerated from attacks (AMPR), and Brawler is largely underplayed. (Unless you count -Fu builds)

Why are you quoting me as if I don't know this basic infornation? There's a reason why I specifically pointed out these 3 weapon types.

This is my opinion from the standpoint of effectiveness starting out. All of the weapon types can start off reasonably well for beginners to some degree, but some just aren't as effective starting off as others.

Knuckle Brawlers, as one myself, have a market that is severly lacking when it comes to the buying and selling of weapons and armor. Making it difficult for most newer players to go into the class and profit. Yes, at the higher end levels of the class it is cheaper than others, especially if you are self sufficient and can customize your own gear. However, if you're starting out the game, the market is abysmal compared to other weapon markets. Decent hand me down equipment doesn't typically exist for Knuckles. If it does it will usually be more expensive than other weapon counterparts with massive production histories.

2h, Staffs, and Crossbows are amazing starting markets with tons of excess to well made weapons for cheap begginer and mid grade progression purchases. These weapons also have a high chance of being bought back for around the same price you bought them. Which isn't always the case in Knuckle land, especially starting out. You'll typically need to low ball to even get the weapon/armor out in a reasonable time.

Now, If I hadn't seen so many people fail the class and need a bailout or simply get frustrated and leave for another easier to profit from weapon type, I'd highly recommend it Knuckles. That's not the case though. At least from what I've seen with newer players starting out in most cases. More success will come from any other weapon type and will almost always leave you richer so that you can invest into Brawler at a later time.

Dual Swords I feel needs elaboration. It is easy to get into, and easy to advance with if you're very interested in the class itself. However, as a begginer friendly progression class, it's lacking if you're not willing to experiment with everything the class has to offer. Which is why I wouldn't recommend it as "the best" beginner class unless they're willing to understand just what they're getting into. The markets fine for the most part and excels more from mid tier purchases.

Katana, I'm going to amend a little. They're good at the start, the very start, but have a market problem for progression weapons. As in, there are almost no progression weapons to make use of. For weapons like 2h, Staff, and Bowgun, you'll find plenty of weapons in the 100k ~ 400k range to make use of that can hold their own until you've either capped out or can afford better equipment. There is no market like this for Katanas, since there's been no need for them with so many established players when the class hit. So you'll likely be best with monster drops. Which is fine, but it won't be as strong progression wise as other established classes.

As for FU's, they're fine. They don't have a crappy market to deal with. Just skill point shortages every now and then before 70.
