Should you create a Luk mage as your first character?

Hmm, for me, I started with Halberd character for DPS. Then, I do the Main Quests up to level 70. Then create new character as Mage (LUK) so that I can get Magic: Storm. And then, I farm Bitter Nuts for fast level. But, it depends on you, I guess.

No, because you can't get Storm at level 1 that way... and I honestly have no idea how a Luck mage supposed to farm without Storm.
Just make a casual character to do MQ, what the guy on top of me said is one example.

Long gone are the days where you're obligated to start as a mage for your first character. Make a DPS character and advance through MQ. Halberd, 2h, Katana, Mage, ect work fine. Halberd and 2h are the easiest to start imo.

Make a Luk mage once you've established yourself a bit and got a character above 70. Or don't and just farm boss mats.

If you start as a luk mage, you'll need very strong mercenaries to do mq. I barely beat motzo machina on easy, because mercenaries can't deal with two boss aoes at once. You can level a dps character relatively easily by boss farming or miniboss farming, but at high levels it gets slow(at level 88, 60k exp=around 4-5%) and you need good dps or a good pt to kill and level fast. Also, luk mage needs high level to have max luk and good int and decent equipment to one shot for NC. Otherwise, you can use it to farm material pts. Don't feel pressured to start as a luk mage, but it's harder to level a luk mage from scratch unless you add int first.

Make a 1h + shield or knuckles tank would be your best bet to get a run to 150. Run along the main quest but your main form of XP will be partying with finale mages for popular bosses. Finaliers always looking for tanks which are scarce.

Personally I would finish off my first char with VIT : 250 rest TECH.
Only get what skills are necessary for tanking, and then the rest go to blacksmithing and making perfect armors.
