knuckles have mobility, speed and ailments.
bowguns have range and mp management.
swords have the best balance between attacking and defending.

    Sword:
    Pros
-Lots of sword have tank-oriented stat, like resistance, maxhp, ailment resist, ampr ans so on.
-berserk can give you 25 crit, 1100+aspd, 500 mp cost for aggro generation, it lower your def/mdef tho. But its not that bad of a tradeoff
-sonic blade is a pseudo shukuchi, can be paired with power wave
-meteor breaker reduces 50% of enemy's guard/evasion rate
-medium rate on the interrupt skills, with 100% flinch (hard hit) 100% stun(shield cannon) and 65% tumble(impact)
    -can use offensive knight skills
    -can use dancer skills
    Cons
-tumble is doesn't have 100% rate
-decoy needs crit and stagger on aoes

    Knuckles
    Pros
    -100% rate on interrupts
-lethal silver knuck have great combination of stats(crit, ailment resist, etc)
    -can use dancer skills
-breathwork can give you some healing
-can somewhat do armor break with shell break.
    Cons
    -battle stance is ugly
    -can't use offensive knight skills
-slide only have 6m range, unlike sonic blade's 24m
-decoy needs crit and stagger on aoes as well.

    Bowgun
    Pros
    -long range decoy shot
    -decoy auto attack is uninterruptible
    -have various ailments

    Cons
-interrupt skills only have 50% rate(martial skills)
-can do instant warp, shukuchi is limited to the weapon's range
-doesn't have a whole lot of crit weapons(all event limited)
    -can't use dancer skills

    Barehand
    Pros
-reduce all damage including fractional attacks
-doesn't need a whole lot of maxhp, which means you can use less vit and get more agi for higher aspd and motion speed. Auto attacks are fast.
-really strong tank for normal battles

    Cons
-not ideal for gemruns, as the damage increase of gemruns is added linearly with the damage reducing skills
-needs some time to stack up skills to get tanky
-interrupts have 50% chance,(from martial skills)
    -require high ampr.
    -cant use dancer skills

IMHO as a tank it's best to use OHS and Shield.

If you were to make a demi-tank build, you'd still have way less DPS than a full DPS. You will have so little of damage that it won't make a difference whether you hit or not when compared to a finale with a couple of mil dmg.

The OHS I love to use is toy hammer which has 100% crit rate but 0-1 damage. Meaning all physical attacks will always hit, ergo you can stun and flinch without caring for anything except effect resistance.

Again as a tank VIT > MTL is the best for me so toy hammer FTW.

OHS is the best area aggro from all of them

bowgun have a almost 100% nonstop mp regen from the long range decoy, and have the best 1 target aggro

knuckles is the best ampr, with dancer skills and chakra you can be a super tank and support

for begginers i think bowgun is the best, you can evade the areas if you need and dont run out of mp if you have 1k+ atkspeed

    Types of Tank
-OHS (unique trait is natural dizzy debuffer and able to dmg)
-KNUX (unique trait is only 100% tumble)
-BG (unique trait is fatal shot)
-Staff (unique trait Priest Skill + Stone Shield)
-Barehand (unique trait is high resistant tank and fastest auto prorator but no 100% interruption which stun is always good as starting skill to break boss)

tbh decoy is useless for pure tank because you mostly use 1mp combo and dont consume 4MP~5MP every 3 sec just like DPS (only viable for knight if u want to spam) i dont know why ppl still use decoy for pure tank

Note : Shell Break can be use by any class which this is considered not exclusive skill for tank (they have same rate also +25% with regis)

Also Barehand now is fix which gem run penalty is applied multiplicative instead of subtractive (which this mechanics is bug from Pre-Barehand 1 to Barehand 2 Time Frame)
lmao almost 2 years bug without action from asobimo

For miniboss masskill or similar cases of fighting multiple boss at once tanks can use decoy to spam P.def without moving and not run out of mp.

never ran out mp from my old mtl pure tank even using heal frequently and spam pdef even in mk. i dont know why tank losing much mp even the most tank skill is low mp cost and tank never spam skill like DPS which Tank can save a lot of MP Bank

In certain miniboss masskills where it's better for tank not to move around, and tanking 4 or more boss/miniboss at once, and those boss/miniboss takes the dps members more than 1 min to kill, the tank don't have time to auto attack to do ampr in a long farm, so it's still more convenient to get decoy in those cases. But non bowgun tanks would most likely get less benefit from decoy if there's non stop aoe everywhere and it keeps stunning the decoy.
