I really liked the Halbard skill list, and It has a really fun playstyle (according to vids) but I have no idea where to start when it comes to actually making a halberd build that can serve as a first character. Is it even possible?

The only problem of halberd for a fresh starting character is critical gears. Considering you are a genuine newbie who exactly has limited spina to buy decent gears and hasn't reached level 150 yet, critical rate is yer problem.

But if you still insist playing halberd then your best essential skill for pre level 150 is punish ray for critical rate and strike stab.

Edit: Punish Ray + Buster Lance is the best combo set up specially for new players planning to play halberd pre level 150. Make sure to level up those skills at level 10

Thanks! I'm definitely looking to go the high CRIT route, so this has been very helpful. Should I bother putting any stat points into VIT if I usually can't find a full party?

since you'll be mostly fighting at close range, some VIT is recommended.
the hp gain isn't much but it scales with your level.
use potions like Vita Plus if you need more.
the survival skill HP Boost can also help, at lv10 you get 1000 +20% hp, but it costs 15 skill points.

    without VIT you'll have 900hp at lv100.
good enough for regular monsters, but any special attack (especially from boss monsters) can kill you.
