Greetings fellow readers and non-readers. I was actually discussing my favorite book with a friend (he didn't read books but I lent him it and he really loved it and plans to take up reading full time) and what came up on my mind is to start a thread regarding that here!

I want to make it so that if anyone does want to read a book, they can find one here and see personal comments regarding it. Simple as that. I'll start first:

    Name: Blackwing
    Author: Ed McDonald
    Genres: Dark Fantasy, Action
Plot for beginners: The Misery, a vast wasteland with a cracked sky overhead, was created by the Nameless as a last defense against the evil forces of the Deep Kings. With its creation, humankind survived and the Deep Kings retreated to their old empire where they are still watching for their chance to strike back. As time went by, some of the Nameless disappeared and now there are only two left. Throughout the book, we follow Ryhalt Gallharrow, a bounty hunter and drunkard who works secretly as a captain in the Blackwing organization and thus for one of these remaining Nameless. When he is told to escort a young woman back to the city of Valengrad, he doesn't know what consequences this meeting will have and that she plays an important role in the looming chaos that threatens their and all humankind's survival.
Points of interests: This is the book for which I was, sub-consciously, constantly searching for. It has a dark setting but not completely destroyed. It has magic although it's not OP. It has a lot of combat and a lot of dark humor which you will enjoy. It's first-person based. The MC is bad-ass and strong but is also a human being with weaknesses to which you will ALWAYS relate to. You will undoubtedly like him and understand what has he and why has he done things. And the theme - it's somewhere around 1850's and 1950's; albeit in another world separate from this.
For anyone who has never read a book outside of school: Definitely a big YES!

    Quicksilver/Confusion/Principia
    written by Neal Stephenson

a trilogy, set in the real world in the late 17th century.
the thee major protagonists are fictional, but all the side characters and places are taken from real world history. there are lots of characters, it's hard to figure out the protagonist. there is no forseeable plotline either, anything could happen (and it does).
the perspective often switches between the three main protagonists. it's a wild mix of adventure, science, drama and porn. the author always describes everything accurately up to the last detail, including math and economics. and it is all written in a way that makes it interesting to read. the explanation about the revolution of math us just as entertaining as the unexpected shameless sex scenes.
cliffhangers between chapters and plot twists spice things up, especially at the very end. once you finish, you will feel empty inside because it's over and no other book will ever be like those.

I was never a fan of books back in my school days as a student. I just recently took an interest in Dr. Tyson's mind blowing arguments about life, universe, and everything about astrophysics, that might also turns me into an atheist someday.
