    Hey guys,

    So main mage questions are:
I like a challenge, will leveling a 1st time character as a mage be rewarding and challenging? Or just plain time consuming and relative to repeatedly running into a wall FACE first?
How do I gain access to other characters skills?
Can anyone describe the meta for dps characters to me? I.e. is the mage a good dps class? Is it in the top 3?
What is the dps meta currently by class?

    Cheers

Mage is relatively hard to level as a first character, when you reach Lvl 150, you will have an access to Lvl 4 skills for all of your characters regardless of their level with the exception of dual sword Lvl 4 skill with Lvl 170. At Lvl 150, you will have a powerful skill that is magic:finale, it's powerful enough even without proper equipments in comparison to other classes

Finale having a huge skill constant have an edge for lower level char over other classes, but the ceiling is pretty low and you'd be an average dps class even at high level. Currently, the top 3 dps imo, is dual wielder, Tenryu mononofu, and glass cannon Halberd. The degree of difficulty of a finale mage depends on situation, but nevertheless, the dps limit is limited compared to aforementioned classes with their significant boost from stats such as physical pierce and unsheathe attack Stat. Finale has 3k skill constant so even when you enhance your magic attack, it won't be as significant as atk to other physical class with their skill multiplier boost and physical pierce. Finale cast time is also fixed. I don't see much potential besides increasing stability with str or the use of godspeed wield that increase your motion speed. It's still a decent dps class although it's getting less practical for recent bosses that won't let you stay still for a long time to cast finale.

The current meta dps is dual wielder, with its features of highly spammable skills, high mp recovery rate and overall highest dps, you need to get to level 170 though unlock the Lvl 4 skill

Thanks for the reply, much appreciated.

So what is a good class to start off with to reach level 170?
After spending...what seems like an eternity on these forums and other resources I have come to several conclusions.
To succeed as a HB player you need to be rich.
    DW you need level 170.
And mage seems to me a good farmer, but tbh...I’d rather create a farmer for when I hit a time and place in this game where I absolutely must create a farmer and Tec character.

So this leaves me with warrior, katana or archer.
Neither of them appeal to me really.

I’d rather play HB from what I have read. Until I reach level 170.

I don’t know, can anyone help me out a little further, thanks :)

Edit: i read th guide that suggest making a mage farmer, then Tec character and finally 3rd char to be the actual main playing character...the guide is awesome, don’t get me wrong, I will look back at it many times but I’d rather do char 3, then 1 then 2.
I.e. final char as much as I can (150 minimum) then mage farmer, then Tec.

Halberd is a pretty good choice, it has arguably the strongest tier 3 skill with strike stab. Although it does have crit penalty so you need to put up decent crit from the gears, which isn't that hard to do. There are lots of gears that could provide you flat crit with relatively affordable price. And once you reach level 150, dragon tooth doesn't even need any crit boost since it has +75 crit rate with the addition of 100% physical pierce. You can use 1mp combos and use warcry of struggle to recover your mp. You do need lots of atk boost to reach its full potential if you plan on continuing your Halberd.

according to the character creation screen, the difficulty is 'hard', and it is.
since most of your power comes from magic, you need mp and time to cast it. getting hit might cancel your spells and your auto-attacks will be weak.
'additional magic', which deals mahic damage without casting is only available at high levels.
the good thing is, that your magic skills are very strong, never miss and you can recharge your mp much faster than others.
if you like magic and stick to it, it will be very rewarding. but if being a spellcaster doesn't suit you, it will be only challenging and frustrating.
most skills are obtained in the Library. there is only one, in Sofya City. more skills are unlocked as your level increases, but the price also increases based on how many skills you already purchased.
it used to be at the top, but not now. that is because the meta is narrowminded and uses only 1 skill. the halberd's Dragon Tooth stands at the top, followed by bow's Crossfire.
the meta sucks, and it changes every time a skill is added or adjusted. you better off following what YOU like and not what others think is 'the best'. it will change, and if you are not prepared to waste lots of resources (and money) you won't be able to keep up with the meta.

I started a halberd as my first toon and was frustrated for a long time as a new player. Suggestions are:

    • Hp is your friend you need atleast 2k and possibly more.
    • Strike stab is awesome but as has been said you need a decent amount of crit to work with it. It is also going to be a waste of points once you hit 150 and have dragon tooth so save your book of oblivion for then.
    • Combos are very important and someone helped me with 2 combos to deal more damage.
    • Flash stab > 2mp skill (save) > magic impact (swift)......this is your starter on bosses
    • Strike stab > 2mp skill (save) > magic impact (swift)....this is your spam.
    • Use war cry of struggle for mp regen
    • This means you need halberd, magic, and a 2mp skill(I use poison dagger)
I also have a mage that is my farmer. You really need finale to do decent damage. I use just storm for everything since I farm only on that toon.

since a a major skill rebalance is coming up in the next month(s), i wouldn't rely too much on the current meta.
    it will change. (a lot)
