These solutions are examples of how the developers of Iruna mmorpg the predecessor of toram mmorpg has proper balancing for mages and buffs, and it is decent and worked out well, magic are actually decent in Iruna online

Kaisyl what are your theories on why toram developers think that physical classes should always be made superior to mages? I would have mained mage in toram if all magics were fast and powerful as physical classes, but unfortunately due to the inferiority of mages due to those unnecessary drawbacks of mages following the toram balancing methods((which are prejudiced against mages)) i have been maining archer and now also knuckles((with tier 5 skills knuckles are godly as archers now)) from the beginning

Looking at mages, you can see the design theme they're going for is a slow attacker.
Unfortunately, slow attacking does not mean larger damage which was the case with finale being ultra slow yet massive damage.

As for why they're doing this? I have no idea. It seems like mages are lacking some sub-systems needed to connect the big damage and ultra slow attacker parts. Magic cannon was expected to do so and failed miserably. Magic crash is pretty nice but it's clearly an ailment skill.

Least they could have done with magic cannon is a 2k constant with +10 constant per charge % and a 10x multiplier per 100% (max +20).

I can almost guarantee it's due to complaints of Finale early into the lifespan, before they nerfed it. The amount the community complained about mages having cheap gear but high damage was constant. And shared among the English and Japanese communities.

So i'm going to assume they took notes on the design from that.

A skill that makes you vulnerable for 5+ seconds (No GSW) with little escape aside from 1 mirage eva use is Supposed to have immense damage, otherwise it's asking for death And wasting time with a worthless skill on top of that, Finale is inherently a "Either Broken or Useless" skill as far as my humble knowledge on game design can see, Slow attackers Must hit hard, otherwise why even bother. (Not to say damage can't be adjusted, but you need to be Very, Very Careful) What they are going for is faulty by Nature and Asobimo should rather change their philosophy rather than keep things with the same drawbacks, or Worse drawbacks (Canon having a bloody mana explosion is like a really bad Joke, it has the exact problem of requiring too much and giving pathetic returns), and just Nerf the thing that makes slow playstyle worth a sh*t.
That's Like making Shugar-free chocolate that in turn has no taste at all, sure it's healthy, but why should I care if the only reason I want chocolate is the taste?
    Truly Genius move from asobimo...

And, sometimes I feel that the community is just jealous of other skills having high damage, Regardless of requirements and drawbacks? If X class is more powerful than Y the answer is either verify that X is Actually, Trully overpowered, otherwise there's a Underpowered Problem going on with Y class and they just envy X class output. The mentality of dishing out nerfs like christmas presents honestly confuses me... ._.)

mages have very poor design and poor scaling abilities. TBH, what i hate the most was the implementation of magic crit. i agree that it can help mages get more damage because of this feature. But if you think about it, where do they even get crit and cdmg? unlike physical class, they can get cdmg easily with stats and they can get crit rate easily now with equipment's crit cap stats and they have some skills to help them get more crit. While mages only gets its cdmg and crit rate with equipment. Crit mage have very high demands to be reliable dps. you got to have all ele awake and frankly a 2s equipment just to balance all the stats you need. Now asobimo becomes really cautious in buffing or raising the damage of magic skills because it might be too powerful if they did. i can see other mages like akakuro who can compete with physical classes in terms of damage (but all of his equip are high end). so to be dps mage, you got to have stacks of money just so you can fully utilize what asobimo have given to mages. and because of magic crit, mage build becomes really awkward. its either you have low budget (finale only) or hiigh end equip, there is no mid budget mage, unlike physical class wherein even if you just have 1s equip, you can still out damage a 2s equip mage (with no crit build). another thing i hate is that they somehow always come up with the most useless skills for mages like the wizard skills. really if they dont want support skills to be reliant or very useful, why make them? why make a damage skill that cant damage for mages?

for me, if they really want to balance mages, they should just have created a separate multiplier that it isnt awkward for mages, or just make the crit be more approachable like making the conversion of magic crit = 3/4 phy crit, and magic cdmg = 1/4 phy cdmg. i would love more to have consistency with my damage instead of low chances but higher output. Another is stop making those useless skills and create more scaling abilities, they need to rework almost of the magic skills like who uses blast? or wall? at least the physical class uses their lvl1-3 skills for buffs and scales, mages dont have useful utilities and skill buffs. only pathetic dps skills.

Looked at the complaints and honestly, they aren't really worth it. Even now, you STILL get people complaining about knux damage being too low despite their new skills basically multiplying their damage output.

There are also cries for katana nerf already, word being that it is too overpowered. Not a katana player so can't really comment on that

The community has a huge boner for big numbers for some reason. Only enforced by YouTubers who focus on highlighting single instances of high damage rather than the rate/time needed.

Another thing is that every other build has some use for their lower tier skills. Mages, not so much. Even with this latest release, there's no reason to really use magic cannon when finale accomplishes it far easier and with less time needed. Cannon has the worst rate to damage ratio in the game. The MP Charge buff is nice though. Crash is good for supporting the party too at high mobility bosses. So a crash cannon mage will have some use, just not a lot with the abysmal damage for DPS and more as an ailment user/smol dps

I agree they shouldn't force players to play a predetermined and impractical to the point of being non-functional playstyle ((ultra slow playstyle which directly translates to being an easy nearly completely helpless prey to all strong mobs and bosses)) that makes a class((mages)) completely and absolutely underperforms in comparison to all other classes((physical)), it goes against the spirit of "free playstyle", mage should have just have been fast instant cast powerful magic activation like physical classes and with the same crit formula as physical class, and to make the mage evenly matched with physical classes they could have just made all the magic damage formulas the same as physical classes but with matk instead of atk, and scrap the mechanisms of motion time altogether, and only utilize movements that do not hinder the speed that magic attacks and physical attacks are launched at. if they had just done that from the very beginning, mages would have been decent and on par with physical classes, instead of what mages are currently now which are ultra slow and weak magical prey that easily gets devoured and annihilated by fast and powerful mobs and bosses even with mirage evasion

Martial skills isn't meant for high damage.
Just like 1hs doesn't do high damage in sword skills.

1hs sword does very high only in dual swords form, so that is advanced skills tree for 1hs.

In the same manner crusher skills tree is advanced skill tree for knuckle, for very high damage.
That's why wait for crusher skills lvl 4.

No point complaining about low damage of martial tree, it's just that martial skills tree is not meant to out damage crusher skills.
That's just how it is, and it will not change.

There are only 2 weapons in game that have advanced skill tree.
1hs = Dual swords skills tree.
    And
    Knuckle = Crusher skills tree.

Kaisyl isn't. He's talking about other people complaining.
I'm personally very happy about Basic Martial skills being Spam damage. (that doesn't affect Proration)
I would disagree, Dual Swords is more of an independent branch. You have different stat point allocation too.
    • Crusher skills don't limit what sub weapon you can use on Knuckles
    • Dual sword skills limits your sub weapon. This means buffs like Sicarus are lower than normal.

About magic skills, I live by the saying from the webcomic 'The gamer' :
    • A wizard's strength lies in his preparation.
Skills similiar (but not exactly) like Trap skills, skills that would require setup, but the setup animation itself is fast, would have been cool skills.
Imagine a skills like Mana Crystal where you can place 5 crystals and then Imperial ray uses all the 5 crystals to deal massive Damage.

That's one of the sub-systems mages need. Preparation. As it stands right now, you can't prep anything with a mage. They have stupid cast times, motion time and then there's the duration in which you must wait for it to finish to recast.

Mages are wooded sooo hard in Toram right now. Cannon is garbage, none of the initial problems are fixed (no simultaneous channeling).

    A complete waste.

Maybe they should release a powerful chantless skill? with no cast time. Casting magic like Rudeus Greyrat?!

q.q I didn't expected toram to add tier 5 skills so soon tbh ,they probably rushed implementing the skills therefore which we can see our current situation, hope everything gets fixed asap , it may take up to 2 more months tho ,I just hope we can get what we looking for and keep supporting devs with all our might ...

Probably! But it was surely a long wait. I guess they want to add more and more MQ chapters quickly and increase lvl cap.
As we can see now that T5 is unlocked at 240lvl. Whereas it is reasonable for them to be unlocked at that level but I can see Devs forcing ppl to lvl up fast, to make their build more creative and more.
Maybe they could have studied the situation more?

Funny thing, they actually tried to solve the cast time skills with slow motion skills for mages, they created that trash cat. really, it has great concept and potential.... a companion that cast skills for you so you can prepare another skill. but somehow they still failed on creating a useful skill tree for mages. it will be more useful if they just remove the wizard skill and then replace guardian beam with cat. then that cat will cast lvl1-3 magic skills for you.

oh i wish that was true. that they dont actually intended to make mages burry its own grave. but not gonna lie, i was already expecting them to make mages not improve at all compare to other classes. im glad that they made int have multi now... but i wonder why is it still lacking. when i compared my damage before and after, im not seeing a real different

    Mage without cast? Impossible!
Mage and cast time always go together, since the very moment mages were implemented in games for the very first time in the world.
They should give mages 100m damage skill with 100 sec cast time, with entire map area aoe damage.
