Is there a cap on critical damage %? Like 200% critical damage is maximum, maybe?
    Thank You

At capped 256 Str,crt dmg would be 201% because base crit dmg is 150% and every 5 str will +1% crit dmg

There is a limit to usable Crit Rate.
Since 100% means every hit is a crit, having more than that does nothing. Only use is if using equips that lower your CR.
You need to remember that crit rate is a dimensionless quanity of n. There is no way to cut a pie it get 150% of the pie. It doesn't exist. Only 100% exist. 1 pie.

Critical Damage is another thing entirely.
This is an absolute percent value. Meaning it deals with the growth (or decay) of n and is not dimensionless.

Critical Damage has no limit cap, inherently.

However the game had an intrinsic limit on CD because the stats max out.
So the maximum CD value unobtainable is this:
150 base + Str CD + Dex CD + Crit CD + Crit Up CD + equips and xtals × Smash Up (if it procs)

I haven't done the math yet nor am I done testing crit not have I tested the CD of Str or Dex. But I will give you two possible examples for conceptualization. Both will be based on the hearsay of other people's "belief" in how these all work and not using the real calc and I'll say we have +40% CD from xtals and equips:

    Low End
    150+(256÷5)+(256÷6)+(256÷10)×(10%×10)+E×(10%×10)=
    150+51.2+42.67+25.6×2+E×2=
    295.07+E×2=
    295.07+40(E)
335.07% would be your normal CD
    670.14% is your Smash CD

    High End
    150+(256÷5)+(256÷5)+(256÷5)×(10%×10)+E×(90%×10)=
    150+51.2+51.2+51.2×2+40(E)×10=
    354.8+40=
    394.8% is your normal CD
    3,948% is your Smash CD

The real answer would lie somewhere between these two numbers.

So what you're saying in the high end is that if you do a critical 10k attack normally, the smite version is about 39.5 times stronger then that? That'd be almost 395.000 damage @-@
Edit: On re reading, I noticed that it'd be about 100k on an smashed attack if that was the case. Am I wrong or....?

    The "Best" is highly situational.
The Best allround stats for a Bowgun that doesn't use arrows is:
    Physical/Magical Pierce (Against bosses)
    And
    Stability

CR +% is also a decent one. But the benefits of the first two are better.

A C777 or C888 are best for Bows.

A C777 or C888 have less benefit to a Bowgun unless all xtals used on all slots in all equips are Crit based.

Edit: I wasn't paying attention. Lol
So if your average crit is 10k @ base CD of 150%; your average normal attack is 6,666.
    6,666×394.8%= 26,317 damage
The smash version being 263,173 damage.

The low end of the same is:
    22,335 damage
    44,671 damage

I can attest to my average hit with a certain char being 350 damage and seeing a smash (@5 ranks) jump to 1760 without critting.

Care to explain more about the skill? Aside from being a pre-requisite for Crit Up, i don't really get the function of it

It boosts your damage randomly. Much like a second crit. It has a 3-5% chance to work on any given attack. It works on auto and Physical skills and both normal and critical damage. I haven't got back to that phase of the crit study yet.
When it goes off, it increases your damage on that attack by around 100-400% at 5 ranks.
