A refining question

I'm still a little new to the vast TEC smith world of Toram so please don't get too angry veteran refiners ! Anyways how does using different metals and ores change how the refine turns out? In my own personal experience I found that when using High-Purity Iron and High-Purity Mithril I got the same amount of risk. I dont know if it's me but I feel I'm missing a huge (and obvious) part of this

 

Max the TEC stat, that'll be 255 then you'll see the difference. ^_^

 

Ryeushio's right, there's a big difference in using 255 tech. However HP Mithril won't be very useful after +D & Iron is something like +E.
