First, like I said in my comment, it's not +300 aggro for normal attack, it's 300% aggro for any attack. (not flat aggro, just percentage). You can test this out by letting your pet do auto attack once, then you use any 200 mp skill. If you get aggro, then it means the pet generated less than 200 aggro with that normal attack. You can test this yourself. If a pet can generate +300 from normal attack then that would be way too imbalance to be in Toram.

Second, the play style is being a tank, as mentioned by @Queenie Leung since the beginning. The first play style that you mentioned is just a damage dealer pet, which is off topic.

This has all the information about fusing: http://coryn.club/article/pet/I.php

Basically, by fusing you can increase the starting potential, then by training you can get them be even more. Then in leveling, each level will increases your stat by 1/100 your potential. (400 potentials mean each level you get 4 points into the stat)

I see. I have read that page already but my problem was that I didn't realize that bonus stat points is the same as bonus potential. Thanks!

    So I can get a pet's potential to 400?

The first play style, using Pet HP Heal and Pet MP Charge, used with a pet that spams buffs (such as I gave as an example) really shouldn't be categorized as "just a damage dealer". It is in fact a tank, and thus is not off-topic.

yes! 400 and even more beyond that! But in my calculation, that only happens if you have extreme luck in disciplining. On average, if you get 3 potential for 1.5 discipline %, you will add 200 more potential for each pet. If your pets are all Genius, then after 32 starting pets (with careful capture lv10), you can reach the maximum of 349 potential. It will not increase more. Note that you reach 347 after 16 pets, so it's not worth doing that again just for 2 mere potentials.

And if you have a Physical Defense pet, then after 32 starting pets (with careful capture lv10), you will get 386 potential. After 16 starting pet it would be at 384.

The only case you get over 400 is that you are extremely lucky and for all 16 physical defense pets, you get 213 minimum increase from disciplining.

We are talking about tank pets of course, for damage dealer pets, the starting pot is 130 with lv10 careful capture, so you only need to get 193 potentials for 16 starting pets to reach 400 potential on your last pet.

a tank should be able to get aggro, spamming skills is cool, but remember the pet mp pool is only 1000mp, even with mp absorb you can't generate fast enough to out aggro a generic toram player. And you pet is an expert in dodging, which also mean it won't use skill as often because it is busy dodging, so not much mp absorb nor aggro generation. It's a typical support/dps build.

You may say you are a mage/archer using -100 aggro gears, but if other players join your pt, your pet will not be able to hold aggro for them, the best it can do is to give some support buff and do additional damage.

In my opinion, you are only a tank if you can hold aggro and not die. If you can't hold aggro then you are not a tank. Change my mind.

oh wait, now i read you comment again and saw a misunderstanding. The bonus stat point IS NOT THE SAME as bonus potential. Bonus stat points are equal to what the max level of you child pet is. (if max is 170 then you get 170 bonus stat points). You can use those points to distribute to whichever stat you want (I recommend the main stat first so it reach 255 as soon as possible).

    No they can't sadly.

Somehow i don't think 400 potential is possible. Only 2 (prefused) pets fused tgt both with 120 base pot in the main stat would come close to it, and that may only get to 380-390 at most as well...

I will post the math soon when i have time. It's possible , just really need the luck during disciplining (i.e. You only takes 1% discipline instead of 2%)

Interestingly, I just tested the training pattern and it only goes up by 1% every 6th time only (the other 5 times is always 2%). Haven't worked out the final number of trainings possible from 0-100% discipline, but its not actually luck based :eek::eek:

I noticed this before on the last few pets i trained up, and just verified it on a fresh pet. You can try it yourself if you need proof.

Also based off this logic, the max number of trainings you can do is 55 times which means the most stat potential you can add through training alone is +165 (assuming you don't use use any discipline on training skills)

... And based off further scribbled math on a spreadsheet, the highest pot you can get is 386, assuming you fused 2 pets together, that were each prefused themselves with perfect fodders (i.e. all lvl 10 captured 'phys defense' of 'magic attack' pets). This pet would have no skills either lol~

IMHO, fusing up pets with stat potential of 300+ is probably good enough (and will take long enough already)

EDIT: and on a fun note... if your pet had 386 stat pot, with 150 level cap... its final stat at lvl 150 should be around 750. Imagine the max HP (vit), matk power (int) or even cdmg on a lucky crit (str) on this kind of pet!:eek::eek:

From what I understand, this is how the stat distribution works. Please correct me if I'm wrong somewhere.

Pet 1 (Genius Type) with discipline bonus +50% Hard Training
    STR 80 (+ 150 discipline training) = 230
    INT 80
    VIT 80
    AGI 80
    DEX 80

Pet 2 would be the same as above and then you can fuse them to form pet 3 with the following stats. Bonus potential would be the potential of pet 1 + potential of pet 2 then divided by 10.

Pet 3 (Physical Attack Type) with disicpline bonus +50% Hard Training
    STR 80 (+ 46 bonus potential) = 126 (+ 150 discipline training) = 276
    INT 80 (+ 16 bonus potential) = 96
    VIT 80 (+16 bonus potential) = 96
    AGI 80 (+ 16 bonus potential) = 96
    DEX 80 (+ 16 bonus potential) = 96

Bonus stat points are 46 + 16 + 16 + 16 + 16 = 110 which you can distribute at level 1. Every level that your pet goes up, it'll gain +2.76 in STR and you can continue adding points to it as long as it doesn't exceed 255. So, assuming that you place all 110 points into STR at level 1, then you'll have 255 - 110 = 145 points left. Each time you level up, you will gain 2.76 points naturally and put 1 point of STR there manually so about +3.76 per level. So take 145 divided by 3.76 which, rounded down, is 38. You can continue manually adding skill points for 38 levels. After level 38, this will reduce to +2.76 again since you can't manually add points before due to hitting 255 cap. So at level 100, you'd have 255 + 2.76*(100 - 38) = 426 stat points in STR.

Am I correct in assuming this or am I misunderstanding something?

that's kind of fuck'd up. Well, if only 55 times then it can't be 400+ then. This new information changes everything. I honestly never noticed this before.

Is Pet MP Charge a necessary skill for me to have if my tanky aggro pet only has rage attack?

no idea, it really depends on your pet and the situation. I suggest don't learn that skill unless you test out if your pet can hold aggro at lv10 rage attack. There is no reason to waste skill points if you are not sure.
