    The Hidden Mechanic?
Now, this may need further probing, but from the attempts I have made, it seems that Burst has the ability to cause enemy attacks to miss. (Dodge enemy attacks perhaps? Even though Dodge/HIT mean nothing with newer bosses?)
From the successful attempts, here are the conditions for attacks to be denied,

    1. Attacks are facing towards the burst/within the burst AoE (Meteor cannot block, AoE reaches beyond burst's)
Needs testing: Attacks within 180° of burst heading will also be blocked [previously (40 + 2 * Skill Level)°]
    2. Attacks are within 2 seconds after the 1.75s cast animation(assume no motion speed modifiers). Simply put, when you see the Burst AoE.
Note 1: Not tested AoE w/ other players *I play solo after all*
Note 2: Do not attempt burst counter w/ spikes even if successful, it's pointless *hah, pun* if you can't escape the spikes within 1 spike tick.

I somehow managed to recreate this a few times after recording, denying Lalvada's (bowling) waves.
Anyway, battle mechanics isn't really my best field since I don't actively dig up source codes.
But if it also works for you, then do share below.

    Applications
For a skill costing 500 MP, actively using Burst solely for the sake of denying attacks is quite a waste...
Unless you're a burst mage, then congratulations, you just realized burst can be treated like Zantei. *Pending*
With that, you could even keep your Brave Aura/(insert aura buffs) when possible.

As a finale mage converting to a finale/burst hybrid, you have my flames of jealousy w/ your CSPD

Feel free to debunk though, in case it was my insane luck.

I saw mayam say that it requires you to have at least one magic skill used before burst to activate the invincibility buff.

To be fair, all my cases did have magic skill casts prior for the sake of instant burst cast.
Timing a burst without burst counters & 760-ish CSPD would be an absolute nightmare, especially when newer bosses don't like the idea of slow casts.
And for the sake of simplicity, I assumed burst mages would be using an Impact Burst combo as main dmg output. That would guarantee a magic skill casted anyway.

Again, I didn't dig through the source codes I don't know how anyway lol, even if I do, I won't

I forgot about that. Then that requirement is not really important.
