Deadly Spear or Impact

    Is it a good idea to substitute impact with deadly spear?

    If you need the extra SP and you dont particularly care about being close range and doing physical proration over magical proration go for it, I use it on my Halb and its doing me fine, plus its only 1mp. The only thing that will get in your way is if it gets evaded since it wont cut the next skill in half, though this is pretty rare in most scenarios. The only time youll hate it is for high evasion bosses.
    Impact is just better, but more costly on SP, since it can be used anywhere and is a magical skill. The only thing that I can say is bad about it is that it lures nearby enemies and if it doesnt hit the enemy then there is no proration from it but youll get the MP halve.

    If you do get Deadly Spear, dont spam.
    1. It makes fighting bosses harder
    2. Thats just no cool, man.

    Proration is the multiplier to your damage, the multiplier changes depending on what you do in battle. Some bosses dont have it like Warmonger, Areana, and Iconos, and the amount differs from boss to boss. For the example, we will assume the boss's proration changes by 50% every hit (that connects, if it misses like using Impact from too far away, it wont prorate)
    Normal Attack Proration 100% - Skill Attack Proration 100% - Magic Attack Proration 100% > Battle Start
    Normal Attack Proration 50% - Skill Attack Proration 150% - Magic Attack Proration 150% > Using Normal Attack once
    Normal Attack Proration 100% - Skill Attack Proration 100% - Magic Attack Proration 200% > Using Skill Attack once
    Normal Attack Proration 150% - Skill Attack Proration 150% - Magic Attack Proration 150% > Using Magic Attack once

    From what you can see, if you were to spam attacks, the multiplier will eventually fall so much your base damage can be cut into 1/5 of its actual damage. Though the test isnt entirely like real game stuff, hopefully you get the point. Spamming Impact > DT would keep proration stable (if Impact hits) since you're alternating Magic and Skill Attacks. Deadly Spear > DT would be all skill attack proration which would drop twice, lowering your damage potential.

    Also, proration caps after 5-6 hits of an attack so you cant keep using magic hoping to infintely prorate your physical attacks to 99999999 damage. Same goes for the other way around, damage wont lower to 1 from proration (unless your damage is already very low)

    If you already knew about proration, good, but spamming skills will lower your damage against the boss, making it harder to beat it.

    Its the main reason why people still use Impact over Rage Sword and Deadly Spear, because they love spamming to see high numbers.
