Def vs physical reisistance

Whats the difference between def and physical reisistance ? These are on the statting option of smith. It looks almost similar

 

Defense have a different damage reduction formula, different range of points in defense use different formula, for example from 0-250 Def the damage reduction % is 0.8% per 10 Def, above that the percentage yield increases but its divided by 100 Def and so on, making a diminishing return. Physical resistance% is a more straightforward Stat which the % represents the damage reduction after the Def and refinement check. It has a cutoff at 50% resistance though, for example at 100% resist you would actually have 75% damage reduction, that 50% after the threshold will be halved making it 50%+25%
