    Some skill activate when the weapon is in the rest position, or in other worlds in the holster so to speak

    unsheathe attack is just another damage multiplier, similar to critical damage.
    first auto-attack, the immediate auto-attack after Guard and Evasion, attacking with Shukuchi, all katana auto-attacks, most katana skills, Charging Slash and Enchant Sword are unsheathe attacks.
