DPS Tank - Anyone do it yet?

With the proto clarity and new Curious dress + Sakura Fan

Has anyone turned their 1hs + Shield into a DPS Tank?

(I would do this if i had a PCR, but I don't)

Looks like you can get 90% PPierce and about 1.5k Attack with over 10k HP pretty easily.

Would be cool to be able to do some nice DPS while tanking hard.

 

Mtl>Vit>Str?

 

That has been my objective ever since I got my proto clarity, to make a 1h shield 100% ailment resist tank semi dps. I spent more than a hundred orbs out of the 200 they gave us buying fairy sewing tools to get as much mtl as possible, but the most i got was 21% total ailment resist from avatars, I gave up on that idea until curious dress appeared which made it possible to run a 100% ailment resist and more than +100 crit rate at the same time lol, now I just needed to reset one of my high level chars to convert it to 1h shield tank and do some test runs, if I'm satisfied with it I'll probably post a build xD

 

Aint ohs shield already a dps tank ??

 

This also works with clarity rose with 50% pierce with a lower attack 190 at its base?

 

i never got a pcr. quit the game for about half a year. i honestly think itd be one hell of a build if you could do it.

Well, it does sound nice. The damage would be limited, though. Its not about the spammability, but as a tank, your auto attacks' proration is valuable. So you still need to land your auto attacks even when you have the ability to spam the meteor breaker. Guardian would also enhance your ampr, but your attack will also be reduced.

My guildie has a 3k atk, 15k HP 1h shield knight with proto clarity rose, with all 2slotted, +S gears. Minus max ailment resist though. I think if you plan on being a semi DPS tank you might as well scrap the 100% ailment resist and maximize your attack, or else just zealously do your auto attacks

 

would the damage really be that limited though? 90pct pierce is huge.

i mean youre obviously misinterpreting the objective of the build. its not to supply main damage but to bring a reliable source of secondary damage (otherwise why bother suggesting this build). youre also overestimating the reduction of damage from guardian. sure i wont be hitting 1m meteors, but 300k meteors over the course of a battle still shaves off lots of time especially for long boss battles.

but at this point im just theorycrafting based off my success with my dps knuck tank.



something else just occured to me. guard strike with 90pct pierce while sitting in sanctuary.

 

Well, maybe I'm just being biased or even salty since max ail resist pure tank is the last meta class that isn't centered around DPS. But yea, it should be viable since meteor have huge aggro generation. A combo of impact>meteor breaker(smite)>berserk(save)>sanctuary(swift)>p.def(swift) should be good enough to give huge aggro with pretty much only 1 phys proration. Do 2 or 3 auto attacks with decoy deployed and you will also provide enough neutral proration for your party.

Also with @+Aria Kanzaki+ case with 21% ail resist from avatars, you would only need to put 167 stat pts into MTL.... if you can get the max 30% then you only need 137 MTL.

 

The only thing i could think of is Oni set.
It has Atkup100% with vit stat.

As for me,until i got 100 crit ohs that doesnt have nega (Like twin eagle and diver bg) i won't even try

 

do class builds become heavily gear dependent later on in the game?

 

For people who like getting off on high numbers and being completely optimized, yes. Really gears will define your build if you wish to make a build that gives you high damage numbers.
But you could also do what I do and use boss equips for the majority of your toram life (which I did for 4 years now).

 

Hey ty! Do i really need to focus on sword skills or knight skills?

 

knight skills are mainly for reventing attacks and making sure the enemy attacks you specifically. P.Def will make all damage 0 if you get hit during the animation, Parry is a good passive for lowing damage but dont use skill points on it if you need other things first, Assault Attack is a great 1 mp starter skill for a combo. Provoke is good for tanks who dont have access to the other skills. Rage Sword and Blinding are great skills for 0hs tanks since it gives them lots of aggro (especially after the buff they got, Rage Sword is now an Impact skill)
Id say go for sword skills if you want more attacking power over defensive power.
