Lv200 Mage Build Share (1/5 New Burst Mage Equip Set)

    2.2 Dagger Mid Range Solo Burst

    As I mentioned in section 2.1, sub md gives the best cspd and mp recover and therefore it is very good for an burst attacker. However, sub md doesn’t have any good physical attack skill - the only one is called sonic wave. Therefore, it is not very good when it comes to solo since building up proration is way more important than casting fast - you can’t deal a high damage if proration is broken. Compare with sub md, dagger has a lot more physical skills thus making it favorable for solo play. Most importantly, all the dagger skills have a range of 8m, such a long range allow mage prorate safely. That’s also a reason I prefer given up some matk for crt rate in order to use dagger well.

    Recommended Skills
    Gatling Knife + Amazing throw: Pretty useful when the boss has a damage floor and ceiling
    Arcane Strike: Useful physical dps skill if you are Int Str type mage​


    Equip
    The same as section 2.1 but the sub weapon become dagger:
    • Holy dagger (matk2%, dark resist +10%, tumble unavailable)
    • Guardian dagger (Max Hp +10%, Physical resist +10%, Magic resist +10%)
    Apart from above dagger, there are some other useful daggers
    • Trick dagger (Cspd +150, Additional Magic 75%) [Halloween event]
    • Sorting Knife (Critical Rate +15, Dark resist -15%, Anticipate +3%) [Christmas event]
    • Lil empress dagger (Critical rate +10, Water resist -15%, Evasion +15%)

    Ava ability
    Same policy as Section 2.1. Apart from that, sometimes I will use following
    Accessory: Cspd+8%
    Top: Cspd+7%
    Bottom: Cspd+7%


    Potions
    Same as those in Section 2.2.


    Combo
    Initializer 1 (Mid Range): Spike dart > Poison dagger (Save) > Impact (Swift)
    Initializer 2 (Close > Mid Range): Kick > Poison dagger (Save) > Impact (Swift)
    Burst Combo: Impact > Burst (Smite) > Finale (Smite)​

    I gain one Burst stock after Initializer combo and gain another stock before shooting burst when I use burst combo. Since I got 4.5k Cspd even without high cycle, 2 stock is enough for me to cast burst within 0.8 sec (which was my storm cast time in old days).

    Sometimes I will use Initializer twice before using burst for better proration and instant cast.

    Since I always keep moving when I use dagger burst, the boss usually move together with me thus making decoy become out of range easily. Therefore, I seldom use decoy in this mode.

    Besides, since we can shoot physical skill in 8m, we can prevent Impact hit the boss and consume extra proration. That’s the main reason why dagger perform the best in solo among all sub weapon. Another reason is the mp saver, Poison dagger consume same amount of mp as Impact thus making it a great skill for initializer.

    In case the boss is approaching you, you may use Initializer 2 to gain distance first. However, there are bosses that cannot knock back.

    Since I have made some demo videos about this mode already (5 videos about mage megiston road 4 solo). Therefore, I just pick an easy boss this time.

    2.3 Shield Close Range Solo Burst

    In Section 2.2, dagger mode performs well simply because we can prevent extra proration from impact by shooting combo in mid range. However, what if the boss frequently approaching you that you have to shoot combo in close range? Dagger combo will not be as effective in such case.

    Therefore, shield mode equip with a bunch of close range skills comes into play - if the boss doesn’t allow us go mid range, let’s do close range then.


    Interrupt Set
    Equip
    The same as section 2.1 but the sub weapon become shield:
    • Shampy Doll +C (Max Hp +1500, Fraction Barrier 10%, Barrier Cooldown 20%): For some extra Hp since mage get hurt easily when fighting close range
    Zoe’s Magic Book is also fine but Hp -20% is too harsh for close range to be honest.


    Ava Set
    Same policy as Section 2.2


    Extra Skills
    Magic mastery lv10 (cost 1)
    Shell Break lv10 (cost 2)
    Shield Bash Lv1 (cost 2)
    Smite lv10 (cost 1)​


    Combo
    Long initializer: Smite > Shell Break (Save) > Shield Bash (Swift) > Impact (Swift)
    Short initializer: Smite > Shell Break (Save) > Impact (Smite)
    Burst Combo: Impact > Burst (Smite) > Finale (Smite)​

    In terms of interrupt ability, Long initializer + burst is better since it has stun in the combo. Besides, the time delay of flinch and tumble is just enough to avoid interrupting boss during buff cooldown. Also long initializer + burst consume 5 mp only but the short one consume 6. However, short initializer + burst is way better in terms of mobility.


    Demo
    Same as last time (at level 195), I picked a boss that loves doing close range battle.

    Note: Goldenia is VERY SENSITIVE to PRORATION - Physical and Magical damage increase A LOT if you do NORMAL ATTACK but damage half when you use the same damage type again. (So remember to do normal attack and don't spam skills like me, this is just for demonstration)




    Close range non interrupt set

    Well, some boss got strong counter if it got interrupted. Interrupt set will be useless in such case. Therefore, we still need a close range that we won’t accidentally interrupt boss. Some resources are released when we don’t do interrupt, I reallocate them for better damage resistance


    Equip
    Main, shield, armor and additional are same as interrupt set. The only difference is the ring:
    Hallucination Spore (Mp+500, Aggro -25%, Tumble Unavailable) <Tuscog><Lalvada>
    My old ring when cooking was not available. Aggro is more important than dps. Anyway, now I use this ring to avoid tumble if I am not using dagger.​


    Ava
    Same policy as section 2.2


    Extra Skill
    Magic mastery lv10 (cost 1)
    Shell Break lv10 (cost 2)
    Aigis lv10(cost 2)
    Protection lv10 (cost 1)​

    Since I am not using shield bash and smite, I can use those resist buff now.


    Combo
    Initializer: Holy fist > Shell Break (Save) > Impact (Smite)
    Burst Combo: Impact > Burst (Smite) > Finale (Smite)​
    Basically holy fist version short initializer.


    Demo
    Slow hunt Proto leon. Tbh, although two phase type allow Int Dex mage hunt boss without getting cast flinch easily, the number of effective attack is halved as half of your time is spent on the initializer.

    Ex. Sad truth about Cspd%

    In toram, cspd calculation is something like this: base cspd from character status * (100 + %cspd state) + cspd state from gear etc.

    If you are Int Dex mage who has nearly 255 dex, your base cspd value is around 1000. Therefore, cpsd+20% equals to cspd+200 = 1/3 buff from spell headphone. If your dex value is lower, the actual cspd gain from this cspd % status is even lower. Therefore, if you ask me cpsd+20% or crt+20 which is better, I will definitely say that crt+20 is way better as you can't get same crt rate easily with handy potions while you can get the same cspd buff with a simple shooting star potion.

    Ex. Decoy Burst with regretless?

    If you watched my lv195 build share about my support mode (All rounder mage: thousand words and supporter mode) and watch it until the end, you could found that I used regretless with decoy and die because of not being able to recast the buff on time... Well, I drank a lot of potions and the buffs are sorting by remaining time in descending sequence. As a result, I can't see time remain of regretless and my player skill is not good enough for me to feel how much time left... Therefore I rejected that plan at last.

    However, after the latest update on 23/01/2020, buff are sorting in ascending sequence now so the shorter buff will show at the beginning of the sequence. Therefore, I guess the problem I faced in lv195 is solved and regretless can be useful now.

    Ex. Burst evasion?

    Burst got a 1 second invincibility buff after burst cast motion and it seems that we can avoid boss full map attack with burst now. However, burst evasion is still too slow even with instant cast. As a result, it is very often that your impact + burst motion can't finish before the attack. Therefore, my final answer to burst evasion is that you need burst instant cast + 30% motion speed up (with gsw) in order to make it useful.

    Ex. 3 phase burst combo?

    Ok, after you have seen my 2 phase type burst combo, you may ask how about 3 phase type. Well, I did try that in P chan frog hunting video but the timing control is really hard as we have more options now (from 2 kind of combo to 3).

    Even wore, as I mentioned that the dps is halved because half of the time is spent on the initializer combo. For 3 phase type, the dps goes to 1/3. As a result, this plan is also rejected.

    Ex. Dilemma of Burst? trade off between matk and cspd

    Old problem again. In old days (before June 2019), I did tried to use burst with my full dps gear. Well, what I found out is that the dps is not satisfactory when we try to stack the burst count up with low level magic, simply because the proration is consumed too quickly.

    For the stacking problem I mentioned above, we can also try to think in this way:
    Proration is a kind of RESOURCE in battle, same as mp and time.
    The term "dps" is telling use the effectiveness of damage according to our cost, time. Then why not we can think about "damage per mp" or "damage per proration"? Indeed they are telling use the same thing: how much damage you give with a fixed amount of cost/battle resource.

    Ok, assume that we stack up the count with javelin * 3 + impact * 1. Total proration consumption of this setup will be 4. Then the damage per proration (dpp) = (javelin damage * 3 + burst) / 4. Since javelin damage is very low compared with burst (around 1/10 of burst), we can estimate our dpp like this: ((burst / 10) * 3 + burst) / 4 = 0.325 * burst.

    If we use impact burst only, then dpp = (burst * 1) / 1 = burst.

    Well, dpp also explained why players tend to use only one skill with highest damage during the whole battle - since dpp is lower if we use other low level skill.

    If we think this problem in terms of damage per mp (dpm). need not to say the javelin case consumed 2 * 3 + 5 = 11 mp in total but giving only 1.3 damage of burst (assume 1 javelin = 1/10 burst)... Why not I use the same mp to shoot a finale?

    That's the reason why I was stuck when I tried to use burst with my full matk gear - too ineffective in terms of dpp and dpm.

    How about boosting cspd? well, it seems to be an effective way after I mentioned dpp and dpm. But giving up too much matk can be a problem - single hit damage maybe too low in the end…

    Therefore, the final solution is to BOOST CSPD WITHOUT GIVING UP MATK AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. After that, if we really need more cspd, then we finally get some cspd by giving up matk or using multi phase burst combo.

    Well, that's why we need High Cycle, lol.

    Ex. Any hope on burst in future?

    After reading so much about burst, I guess you somehow feel the flexibility of burst and also the problem of burst. So, any hope on this skill in future? Here I will list some important event that may change the environment a lot:

    Magic/Igel (End of Feb):
    This skill can be useful to burst, but it really depends on the following:
    • How much one hit damage will be? Of course as much as possible, if it is even lower than single hit of arrow, it may not be that useful…
    • Any maximum placement? Since this skill will be triggered when magic cast and magic end. What if I use impact and then storm? Will the skill triggered by storm overlay the skill trigger by impact? If yes, not very useful
    • Will instant cast magic trigger this skill twice? At the beginning and end? Even if not, it’s still fine.
    Since Burst attack more frequently than finale, Igel is more favorable to burst. Hope this can somehow improve burst dps​


    Valentine Event (Mid of Feb) + White Day Event (Mid of Mar):
    Valentine event usually gives xtal favorable to mage. Hope there will be another good add cspd xtal.
    Cookie ring is from White Day Event and it gives cspd. Hope there will be cookie ring 3 this year.​

    Avoid Guard System (End of Mar):
    Burst heavily rely on high cycle and it usually disappear because of boss normal attack. Therefore, if we can avoid attack with the new evasion, there is a chance that single phase burst can be used in solo​

    lv4 Job skill (April or June):
    Well, the root of dps halved when using 2 phase type is that the initializer has nearly no damage and we wasted half of on time on this low damage combo. Therefore, what if we get another good dps magic which gives same dps as burst and finale for initializer? 2 phase type performance will be way better as initializer can contribute to dps now. Originally, I supposed meteor strike would do this job but well… let’s see whether lv4 priest or wizard skill can be our third magic.​

    after quick read your build, seems you doesnt consider MD main dps as a thing:(
    Was thinking maybe there's any people that somehow managed to make MD as a main weapon and using it for high level PvE.
    But well, your point does make sense about using MD as sub weapon, not to mention about how low MD weapon ATK is.

    Nice timing! I don't use md main as dps but I do use main md for my mage too. Pls look forward to tomorrow (I guess you know how I will use main md though...)

    Section 3 Doing Well in Other Positions

    Although there are three more positions: Tank, Breaker, Support in Toram, we can't deny that most people only aim at being the best attacker. As a result, it is possible that you got only attackers in your party while you really want someone to do tanking or part breaking. However, if you ask a pure attacker with bw, dw, ktn, 2hs or hb to do the job, it can be very hard - they can't interrupt boss in 100% nor use a shield for more resist and aggro.

    Therefore, mages can be valuable in a party - as we can somehow cover the weakness of any party by shifting gear and positions.

    Indeed, the above concept is very old already - I first mentioned that in Aug 2018 and repeated that once at lv195 but seems no one interested, lol.

    3.1 Supporter Mode

    Magic device is usually used for mob hunting, although there are mages wanna to use it in boss battle. A great example would be Wimzi's Ampr Mage, her approach is to make use of long range of md and use it with decoy. With an additional mp source from decoy, she can shoot finale without mp charge.

    Using decoy with md is a good idea but using finale as dps is a bit tricky - or I should say the disadvantage of using md compare with stf is too large, let alone comparing with other weapon.

    Therefore, let's think about the unique advantage of Md over Stf again:
    • Long range
    • High cspd buff from gear
    • 100% debuff/interrupt with Javelin
    • Only gear that can use minstrel and dancer skill at the same time
    • Can gain aspd and atk with agi (Not an obvious “advantage” to staff as it cannot gain atk from str, which also gives critical damage bonus - So, stf -> strong one physical hit; md -> fast physical hit?)

    From above advantage, we can somehow conclude that md mage can a very powerful supporter:
    • Long range:
      • You can use decoy for fast mp recover and use less mp charge -> You are less likely to get hit and your support won’t stop cause of mp charging
    • High cspd from gear:
      • You can instant cast heal -> more timely heal
      • You can instant cast burst -> You can avoid full map AOE attack -> Your circle type buff (like brave aura) won’t be gone easily
    • 100% debuff/interrupt with Javelin:
      • You can make boss attack less frequently with freeze or fear. Or reduce evasion with dizzy etc.
      • You would become MVP if the boss is weak to certain debuff
    • Only gear that can use minstrel and dancer skill at the same time: Well, both are support skills

    Since I don’t have enough skill points, I can only use circles, heal, recovery and first aid even in support mode.


    Equip
    Main Magic Device:
    Prism Ring (Water Element, def 10%, mdef 10%, physical resist 20%, magic resist 20%, cspd 100%) <Megiston The Champion 2> <Drama Clown>:
    I got nearly 255 dex so cspd 100% = cspd +1000
    Since decoy won’t recover mp when its attack is missed now, critical rate 100 is a must now

    Armor
    Matk10%,Int10%,Cspd20%,Crt20 <Iron Empress> <Noeliel the Ice Statue>
    Replaced my lil devil garb with this new armor, light element no longer my weakness now. Also, crt +20 is good

    Add
    Mage cape (Max Hp -30%, Magic pierce +10%, Cspd +1000, Aggro -20%) <Chocolate2> <Gespenst2>

    Special
    Cookie ring 2 (Mp+450, Cspd+200, Matk+20) <Mochelo> <Titeres>
    Mochelo is needed for reaching Cspd 10k. Well, if my ring is my philo ring, Mochelo is not needed.
    Titeres is used for ampr. As a support, ampr is more important than matk​


    Ava ability
    Accessory: Cspd+8%
    Top: Cspd+7%
    Bottom: Cspd+7%
    Full cspd, 10k cspd is a must


    Extra Skill
    Javelin lv10 (cost 1)

    Pretty hard to get pt that allow a supporter to join. Also I need to find a boss hard enough that supporter is needed

    Well, it is true that people sometimes think supporter is leeching - since supporter usually gives low damage. Besides, another problem is that Sutsuki P seems intentionally make supporter not as important as Iruna. If you played minstrel in Iruna and compare those skill with Toram, you can feel that Toram version is too weak. Also, we can get hp potion more easily in Toram than in Iruna, healer is not as important as in Iruna. (I heard that someone say Sutsuki P mentioned that he don't want healer become a must when he design Toram, although I can't trace the original source of this information.) Even worse, those support circles will be gone once received attack. Those factors make supporter really unfavorable in Toram.

    However, when your members die a lot or all your party members are your friends and you want them to have more fun, it's good to use supporter (Well, it is very rare though)

    What low budget equip that u recommend for maximum cast speed? Is 20% cspd equip is a must? And do u need food buff?

    Blast also has 100% ailment and on a wide AoE.
    if you can instant-cast Burst without charge you can also instant-cast Blast.
    and it's on the same line as Burst, so it needs less skill points.

    With my current gears with all cspd potion, I just managed to reach 10k cspd, it is pretty hard with lower cost equip (the only solution I can think of is to replace the arm with lil devil garb, although light element attack will be a problem)

    3.2 Breaker Mode

    Assume that you team up with a hb, ktn and dw, and your party can hunt the boss in 30 seconds, what should you do to bring extra value to the party? Well, if the boss is not a mini boss, my answer is to do the part breaking job. The simplest way to interrupt is to use shield bash and impact. However, we usually use impact to begin a combo, which means that we can't move and break different part of the boss. Therefore, impact is not very convenient. Shield bash is fine but sometimes 5 seconds from stun is not enough or the boss has counter to stun (bkod will step back when he got stun or tumble). For flinch, you could use Javelin with neutral element staff/md, but I think the motion is too slow.

    Well, what I want to say is that knuckle is still the best when it comes to interrupting boss since you can get flinch, tumble and stun easily. Then, another problem is should I use staff sub knuckle or knuckle sub md, here is how i separate their use cases:
    • Staff sub knuckle: When the boss doesn't have critical resist and I want some dps. Matk -15% when using sub knuckle but the magic damage is still higher than main knuckle sub md. Simply because I have elemental staff only but not knuckle and additional skill damage bonus when using staff.
    • Knuckle sub md: Use it when boss got critical resist or I need 100 crt rate (my staff equip set only gives 97 crt)


    Equip

    My gear is base on finale/burst sub md dps set (section 1.1 and section 2.1, I usually use burst instead of finale for higher mobility though), the only difference is I use knuckle as sub weapon

    For main knuckle sub md, here is the knuckle I use:

    Lethal Silver Knuckles III (Earth element, Critical+75, Ailment Resist +9%, Anticipate +25%, Damage Reduce (Player Epicenter) +15%, Damage Reduce (Foe Epicenter) +15%) <Finstern The Dark Dragon> <Lapin The Necromancer 2>:
    I need more mp so I put finstern as usual.
    Since I won't use decoy here (range of knuckle is too short), I use Lapin 2 here​


    Ava Ability
    Same as section 1.1 and 2.1, basically full matk


    Extra Skills
    Smash lv10 (cost 1)
    Bash lv10 (cost 1)
    Sonic Wave lv10 (cost 1)

    I won't put those interrupt skills into combo for best mobility. The only combo I use is impact burst or impact finale

    This time I pick the boss that I usually use breaker mode - masked warrior (Easy to get lots of good dps there and therefore I usually do part breaking for better pet exp) and also a crt resist boss - Seele Zauga (Just normal difficulty, dps not enough for sure if I go nm or ulti)

    can you share your burst build with 1s version? I know it would be make burst's damage less optimal, but you know, get 6 staves based on element with 2s litle bit costly. I know finale would be best option for 1s version. but it make me bored from slower mobility
