Definitely not a SAO name :)
I just started playing the this week. So far it has been a blast. I am currently rolling a 1h + knucks varieity of Hybrid. It's fun, though it feels a bit off. probably because I am used to playing as a Bounty Hunter which wields guns from my past MMO.

I am a lone wolf not by choice, but it's because of how frequent my free time changes. So, how viable is Gun Fu when it comes to solo'ing bosses? (Solo Party, like with mercs and pets)

Since I am totally new to the game, some skill builds / skill points allocation and cheap-o gear setup would be helpful too.

    Thank you very much!

    Welcome to Toram!

Fu is a great start. Knuck traditionally has low atk power but its great as a sub-weapon, for all its useful skills. In the early levels you have access to 100% flinch (Lvl 6+ Smash), 100% tumble from range (Lvl 10 Sonic Wave) and 75% stun (Lvl 6+ Bash). When you reach lvl 70, definitely go for Triple Kick as your main DPS. TK is a skill that does a guaranteed critical so you won't need to worry about accuracy issues or critical equipment.

Between 1hfu or gunfu, I have to recommend 1hfu.

    Why?
    • Blade skills have more utility than Shot skills.
    • You have to be up close anyway for TK and Smash/Bash.
    • The main DPS of Shot skills (before lvl 150) is Snipe, and that has a -25% crit rate penalty with bowguns. Which makes it far harder to reach 100% crit on that skill.
Hope this helps. Good luck and enjoy!
