This may seem like a 'noob' kind of question, but i'm genuinely curious.
from what i've seen on youtube, the classes that are usually playing as a tank build seem to be a mage or 1h/2h swordsmen.

edit: thanks for moving the thread. i realized after i made it and published it that i put it into the wrong one

I'm bias as my tank is BG lol, but OHS, Knuckle, and BG can all fill this role well.

It actually depends on the player's preference.

Some use 1 hand shield tank because of the knightly/paladin feel on it and has a good interruption skill such as hard hit.(100% flinch lvl 10) and has access to aggro generating skills from knight skill tree.

    2 Hand,
dealing decent damage while taking hits must be the reason I guess. Qualified as a semi-tank imo.

    Staff with shield,
I don't know, possible but not as effective as 1 hand shield tank and other tank classes imo.

    Bowgun Tank,
Taking advantage of high mp cost bow skills for aggro and decoy for its range. No reliable interruption skill tho.

    Knuckles with shield,
Has a lot of interruption skills but has slower animation tho. Need more aggro% stats because they kinda have less generating aggro skills.

All tank types have strengths that the other tank types do not.

Knuck tanks are great for breaking parts because of all the crowd control skills its tree has. Tapping power is stronger for knucks too since the sum of your matk and atk is reflected in your taps. So it excels in boss mat farming or interrupting deadly boss aoe.

1h tanks are great for holding aggro. It has access to knight aggro skills that generate a ton of aggro for a small amount of mp. It's great for farming multiple mini bosses specially if it is a mental build not affected by ailments.

BG tanks are great too! Perfect for fighting bosses that are sensitive to flinch, tumble, stun. Mental BG tanks could easily tank multiple mini bossrs as well.

Most staff tanks are more centered in supporting. Vit Int tanks can spam heals, recovery, and other buffs. They're limited to using impact for tumble, javelin for flinch, and shield bash for stun. Staff tanks also don't have access to a 100 crit rate weapon like the other tanks have access to making tanking as a staff tank harder because its only stun skill could miss.

If you have access to toy hammer (1h drop), drills or twin eagles (knuck drop), or cone bg 3 or divers bowgun (event limited point reward) then you can try which build suits your play style best.

    Happy tanking ^^/

I'm using staff shield as tank

You can spam guardian + sanctuary + finale, while no worries about MP and HP. Also you can easily solo/pt farming or being finale mage if you want :) and supporting when your teammate died.

It can be build for high resistant, high fractional barier (for this you also need avatar stat), and also 100%++ aggro, but low ailment resistance (ignite/poison can be heal with recovery)

If i count you can easily 5200 aggro in 1 combo
    Opener(100)+Guardian(600)+sanctuary(400)+impact(200)+finale(1600)+etc = 2900 aggro. With 85% aggro you will get 2900*185% = ~5365 aggro (only 2-3mp cost)

Using dark general shield (boss) 30% aggro, charm belt 30% aggro, and guidance lantern 25% aggro, no xtal aggro = 85% aggro

Good luck then to build with your style xD

1h tank has 1 thing people are leaving out. one amazing skill. TRIGGER SLASH!!!!! use as combo opener to speed up guardian animation (twice as fast), and put on end of another combo for atk mp recovery.

Knuck doesnt need +aggro like these people are saying. knight skills are good but pdef and guardian is ALL a good tank ever needs for aggro, regardless of weapons.

As tank, it is your responsibility to not spam physical skills(rage/binding) so the pt can dps with good proration.

In the end though, any class can tank if u can use more mp than pt can. the question is whether u want to Dodge very high dmg atks(dps tank usually) or block them for more aggro(shield tanks). the important part of tanking is just learning boss patterns. if u kNkn how boss acts, most can be tanked w/ 8k hp and no +aggro gear(gem runs are of course a different story, tho still possible to low hp tank)

Any kind that can log in right now.
    Jk.
I have played both Knuck and mage tanks. I used to use a drill Knuck tank but I didn’t like it because it felt more like and armored personnel carrier then a tank. No damage. Then I got twin eagles and pulled it out. It’s a lot of fun, plus you have shield so you can cast the agro generating skills like guardian. Stun locking is awesome as well for full breaks.
My mage i based off a build from a while ago, works well, deals good damage. Can np charge quick.
I liked these because they gave me the ability for the large part to solo level. All depends on your play style though.

Twin eagles are nice, but in my experience, trying to hard to dps leads to simple mistakes being made. like "oh i forgot tht aoe did THAT much damage" xD

Yeah I was gonna say that bg can imterupt from close and afar pretty easily. As a tank there are some stats I dont mind using or sacrificing cause in the end its all about delivery and if something works.

tbh my 1hs tank kinda sucks (read: boring) as its mtl so it kinda ruins tanking for me but hes pretty impervious to status while my bgnisnt and is mobile af

    i make 3 tank in 1 char (1h,knuckle,bowgun)
i just use guardian, berserk, warcry, decoy, sanctuary, sneak lvl 1 for my main aggro skill.
and opener skill for each class, hard hit, smash, sonic wave, moeba, assault, shield bash.
i change weapon/job for each different boss.

i think there is no BEST class out there for tanks, it is just really situational, it goes like this:
-there are bosses needs more interrupt skills than just holding the aggro for it (e.g maton sword, gwaimol, etc), so knux will perform the best here.
-there are bosses needs to put ailments to kill it or kill it much faster than before (e.g maton sword, wandering wheel, etc.), so bowgun will do the job here.
-then i find 1H is between the both of them, cause they can make half of the two above to do the job, 1H got flinch and stun, and this class access knight skills to use binding strike with stop ailment than can be useful on other boses. Also most of skills of 1H got high aggro so they won't have trouble when it comes to aggro holding.

so much better if you choose which one does fit on your playstyle, either you want more interrupt, you want a long range tank, or u want a melee high aggro tank that can balance both of that roles, it's really up to you to choose :D

tho i use my bow archer, not bg. as imo it dnt need pdef, and aggro management is easy with skills like arm break at your disposal
