purely opinion based on play style. I happen to think bowgun is short-sighted option. bow is better for more stable dps, and most things needing ailments dont even need a specific damage absorber in the party. pkus bow has better ailment infliction rate if i remember correctly.(Edit: or is that just tumble?)

Yes bow have better ailment infliction rate, but we are talkin about tank purpuses and dive, cone bg are a sweet candy for it. Its posible to make 1 tank character able to use 1h,knucle,bg. Sp are enough(without count star gems) making you able to face any boss with any weird mechanic just changuing your weapon main and fixing your combos. Its worth and just take 1 character slot.

i see your point, and its valid on newer or more budgeted accounts. i have a lot of char slots and I use different stat set ups for each of my aggro holders. pure mtl> then mix of vit and agi for 1h(keep rampage goin for ampr, agi cuz i love being fast), vit agi mix for knuck(keep tap damage as passable/achieve small level of dps), dex>str for bow(cuz my main dps, just learned to rata with it back in 1mp snipe combo days) and as such, with these three characters, it wouldnt be plausible to have all skills i use for all weaps on 1 character at current cap

Ya im understand. 3 in 1 tank just take the very needed skills. Im not good in english but undestand in your reply that do you think is expensive build? Its very cheap like any tank build(compared with dps builds goin 2s and elemental sets anything is cheap lol).

no i meant ur build is better for people that don't have multiple character slots available for different tanks. i've used a good deal of free orbs on extra character slots so each character can be dedicated to its own class(1h tank, bow dps, etc) but newer players, and players with other priorities for thier orbs(ava, gem lotto, etc) don't have that luxury

All you need as a tank is p.def, and buff skills, that's all. Doesn't matter which weapon ur using

if you want to whitle it down that far, pdef with out buff skills is acceptable. but there are places where each class falls short and thats what original poster is trying to find out and make a decision based on. saying you just need pdef doesn't help anyone learn what they may or may not like.

I guess so, here is my suggestion.

Go with 1handed sword since its the coolest, and you actually wield your shield instead of keeping it on your back.

^ lol aye and actually if i remember right, its useful as more then just looks. i seem to pdef faster when shield is already on my arm. when i started my knuck tank, i had a hard time getting the timing right as i'd been 1h tank for over a year at that point

Yeah the limited proto clarity 1hs is nice but it doesn't give 100% crit rate so I didn't suggest it. Granted it is easy to make a semi dps char with all the crit hats, gear, and skills to get 100% crit I felt that it was outside of the scope of the OP's thread.

Dual swords makes good tanks as well, fast a lot of attacks and agile, so your tank doesn’t have to take each hit

DW is weak against magic attacks, but they are almost invincible towards physical and fractional attacks.
obviously they must be build with agi.
those wannabe dps dex str DW are really bad.

Believe me, tank mostly dead not because of taking hit, it's because of Magic Damage, Fractional Damage and Ignite.

Plus DW skill will mess up the proration, and cannot lock the mob/boss.

I not sure why people still using knuc as tank even the martial skill ailment have been adjust to depend on AGI stat.......but 1h-shield is the better build for tank so far because of the blade skill, warcry, meteor storm, buster blade.

With combo like Throw Shield/Reflect > Warcry > BusterBlade, i can have a long range HP regen combo + Damage Boost + Fear Ailment remove without get closer to mob/boss, P/DEF and Meteor Blade is the best defend skill for Deadly AOE skill and Meteor Blade is great for mana tank for other combo and guardian.

    1. if ur knuck tank, u have agi. or atleast i do.. but even my 1h tank has agi.
    2. knuck can hold aggro just as easily from a distance using most of the same skills.(reFLEX not reflect, warcry, guardian, sanctuary. i personally use this combo reflex>guardian>warcry>shellbreak[save>swift>swift])
    3. 100% tumble. knuck is only class capable of achieving 100% for all 3 interrupts(idk what that depends on agi stat nonsense is... i have 100% flinch etc on lvl 1 characters)

Knuck tanks ailments are dependent on agi? That's news to me.. I have a level
168 knuck tank and it only has 18ish agi and it still inflicts 100% of the ailments when I use my CC skills.
