Sword Questions

Hi All,
I am trying to experiment on builds. I have tried both 1h+shield and dual swords for the last few weeks and I will try next a 2h build.
Questions:
1. Do Sword Mastery affects dual swords?
2. Are 2h builds good tanks?
3. Are there any samurai themed armor and weapons?

2. Plausible. Since 2 good stats for 2h to go after full str is Vit or dex.
3. Avatars named Camellia. Sakura 1h and 2h. Demon Avatars.

 

Aren't the sakura items an event only items? As well as Demon Avatars?

 

1. Main hand damage (AKA your ATK stat) is augmented by Sword Mastery. Offhand damage remains unaffected.
2. They are viable tank/DPS hybrids.
   Pros : One stat with high gain for damage; strong aggro spells; Hard Hit for interrupts; Trigger is a very good motion speed booster; easy to get high crit rate.
   Cons: Lack of offhand slot makes them lose against Shield Tanks because Guardian; some skills are somewhat slow.
3. What Cyph said.

Sakura items yes; we were also supposed to get them again with the Hanami event this year but there was no news regarding that (maybe tomorrow's live). Avatars are usually event-themed, but Asobimo constantly rereleases them... but good luck getting the top and bottom parts!

 

Is full DEX than full STR better?
I like sword type characters on a mmorpg, I always play this class.
I did have a difficult time with 1h+shield being a solo player most of the time, my friends don't play as much as I do. In regards to Dual sword build, I didn't like it.
I am looking for a samurai themed character and so far, upon browsing the items, no sword looks like one. This is one of the reasons why I am planning for a 2h sword build.

For your 2H tank? DEX is not worth it. Astute gives you 50 crit rate by itself. If you get a Gothic Hat + WM and Crit Up skill in Battle Skills (or two c12³ gears), you'd have enough crit rate to never miss after Astute buff is up. Plus HIT is countered by certain bosses (Zolban and high difficulty Forestia).
For your DW, full STR is absolutely not better but full DEX isn't the best either. There must be a balance between the two, and that "perfect spot" usually varies between the skills you use.

 

Wouldn't Not putting any point in Dex will make your attack miss most of the time? How about crit chance?

 

I am such an idiot, I just created a new char with Dex and Vit build, might as well delete it and create a new one.

1h+shield integrates attacks and defence. This equipment combination and their skill trees are very compatible for tank builds.
In fact, 1h+shield builds are good for soloing too since survivability issues are well addressed through several ways.

But the most important factor to consider is still your play style. Then look at the roles & functions of builds (classes if it's easier for you to understand in terms of context) to match your play style. After that, equip the corresponding equipment, acquire the necessary skills, structure combos and work out tactics & strategies which reflect your play style.

If you want to have a Tank, 1 of the most effective equipment is the Shield and its skills. You mentioned you had a difficult time with 1h+shield. Can you share what issues or problems did you encounter?

 

Well, for starters, i got to lvl 50 and still no good shield to find, grinded the Golem Boss for a day, not even a single shield drop, then the issue of boss fights, yes I am tanky, but it took almost a lifetime just to kill the Dragon.

The issue I encountered with Dual Swords were the dodging of enemy attacks, the auto-attack of dual swords cannot be interrupted, which lead to my character dying, even I do have ample amount of Agility, and remodeled armor with Guard skills, I don't feel my evasion that much

yes, they can use Knight Skills too and you get 10% Guard Rate and 25% Guard Power with Heavy Armor. Armor Mastery has 2 skills with 10% each and you can wear equipment with Guard Stats.

the Sakura Edge from Hanami Event is a samurai sword.
samurai-ish armors have not been released yet...

 

For boss drops, you need to break their parts using certain skills that inflict flinch, tumble or stun (eg Hard Hit, Shield Bash, Impact/Sonic Wave). Some drops are uncommon or rare drops, so you have to grind lots more. Having a party with you for grinding makes the process easier.

1 of the best shields for a Tank is the Marble Shield (+20% Guard Rate, +20% Guard Power), dropped by the Pillar Golem boss.

Being a tank doesn't necessarily mean your attack capability is demolished. You can experiment with a semi-tank build, which balances/integrates attack and defense capabilities.

For Dual Swords, part of its defense mechanism involves Dodge/Flee and Evasion. Both are different mechansims. Evasion is acquire through equipping remodeled Light armor, Light armor Mastery skill, Evasion+% stats on gears and potion(s). You have to learn to avoid some attacks manually by re-positioning or via execution of certain skills. Think Dual Swords as something similar to ninja, assassin and light cavalry.

On Dual Swords' auto-attacks, it can be faster with higher ASPD (which means more Agi stat or via gear stats). It can also be cancelled manually with lots of practice and good timing. @Cypherian is a master of this build and technique.

Given that your character level is still low at 50, many skills and stat points are not acquired yet, hence the performance of your character you experienced can be improved a lot more. You must have a mindset of "Character Growth" and have patience.

 

I remember you, we already suggested you concentrate on your main quest to level up faster and to open up more possibility for your shield, instead of grinding those low level bosses. Oh well, anybody can be stubborn sometimes..

Timing has to do with dw's auto attack if you haven't learned how to cancel it.

AGI raises flee/dodge and not evasion rate, this two exist differently in this game. From the layer of defense, flee/dodge comes 1st before the evasion rate, so you get the picture when you raise AGI more is you dont evade more often. Possible solution is for evasion gear because evasion from guard skill is not enough to process most of the time. ^_^

Main Quest is very difficult for me, even with a lvl 100 mercenary. Doesn't have the right equipment for boss fights. I don't like the main quest since it has no progression, just after you fight a lvl 40 boss, you will jump into a stronger boss.

For now, I will focus on my dual sword build and see what happens.

exploring by yourself is very important, the main quest does not contain all of the maps and bosses and you can easily miss good stuff.

 

Yes, that is what I am planning, If all else fails and I really didn't like the swordsman class in this game, I will try mage instead.
