Well, oh well. I don't use the sword class or subclasses at all, so I guessed it was from main skill tree. I suppose though, since it's limited to 1h and 2h it should be fine. But next tfl will have a new concept anyway.

Hi, I just made a mage and chose a build close to my game style. Your easoning is commendable and you raised an awesome point how ever, would it be a lot cooler for a mage to be able to dps, break, tank and even buff. :)
Im sure your pro playing mage but correct me if im wrong, when you were battling with the mage who used provoke you won dps? And to seal the victory both yall have to worry about break rank. With my oppinion you were played well, your opponent used brains not brawl. Its quit easy to steal breaker from a fellow mage all you have to do is to get close to the boss and try to spam impact while doing normal hits.
Now picture this, I am a mage who opted to use morning star. I am not a hybrid because I didnt have any skills from sword, dual wield, knuckler or bow class. I wanted to use morning star because of its atk speed boost, then I used atk speed pots on top of it. My game plan is to let you all do the dps while I focus on using impact provoke while doing lots of normal attack. Im sure youll get the bigger picture. No rules violated its just that I did not play hard but rather played smart.
My debate with you is, how well do you know your character. To put it in lay man's term how are you able to adopt to your rivals strenght. From what I understood the sole purpose of TFL is to showcase the best and most flexible build per class.
Now im sure as always I might get bashed with this comment but if we are talking about fair game play, so long that we didnt violate any rules we are good to go. :)

I agree... Say you were smart and made a super combo which I would not disclose skill + skill (save) + skill (Smith) + skill (Smith) + skill (Smith) + skill (cons). Would it be not difficult to steal agro even from a provoker build.

Well its about time maintenance is completed so I will take my leave along with my final comment, after carefully reading all the wonderful and educated comments. I would like to remind everyone about hard fact.
    1. The rules are simple. Win 3 ranks either dps, breaker or tank. The most player with ranks win. Its a self explanatory.
    2. Fights are bounded by classes. Swordie, Dual Wield, Knuckler and Bow/Crossbow. There is no such thing as breaker class, tank class, dps class or even buffer class. Its entirely about how you build your character. Now if we take skills from swordie, Dual Wield, knuckler or bow/crossbow and combine it with another class then it would be hybrid.
    3. If you cant accept TFL rules then host your own TFL tourney and make your own rule or dont mind joining.
    4. Remember that there is always someone stronger and smarter than you. Dont dwell in fact you only think is right. Consider other aswell.

If you read the remainder of my posts you would have seen my answer to your question. Your reasoning is a common counter-argument.

Long story short is that my Mage is designed for Toram, not for TFL. My opponent realized this, and adopted an appropriate and effective counter, one that led to his victory. That is why I lost, and I accept that. The question I posed to the TFL organizers was this: Why should my Mage use a build that deviates from the long-term meta in order to win a short-term event?

There are two answers to my question, both which I knew beforehand. The first one, which I proposed, was to align the demands of TFL more in line with the demands of the meta. The second one, which I didn't want to see, was to simply deal with it. This is a community organized event and it will not be perfect.

I was fundamentally flawed. If I wanted to win, then I would have taken the risk of modifying my mage. In the end, however, I made the judgement that it was not worth modifying my mage and using it to compete against almost certain defeat. The post you quoted was my first attempt to convince people to my first answer. However, I quickly realized that my appeals, while seemingly understood, were not making much impact regardless of how much rationality I mustered.

So, Sir Nobody, I hope that answered your question. I am "pro" most of the time, but not "pro" enough to stand a reasonable chance of winning. That's why I made that appeal.

I respect your sentiments how ever the way I understood your reasoning is actually quite the opposite. Your response harbored misleading thoughts toward TFL and those who are hosting the event. Have you seen the reaction of those people who shared your thought. I wonder what it could do to those new players who would chose the path of mage. They might think that mages are only bound to high dmg, could not tank nor break.
Also if you would ask me. It's totally worth it to leave the classic build and explore other possibility of mage, I mean the prize was 5m spina. Then there's boss hunt party, say you are constantly bested in terms of dps. Would you rather leave party because you couldn't get any rank... I know you get the whole picture.

Whether or not you change your build, is really none of anyone's concerns. The purpose is to win a competition hence it's just a way of prepping like any other non virtual competition out there.

Personally for me, I enjoy seeing the colourful builds out there who deviates from the "standard". I mean, should a person win only because of changing builds, then you should also understand that creating a build from scratch requires hard work by leveling, which if you have forgotten takes a quite a bit of time.

Again, whether or not a player changes their builds, is not of anyone's concerns. and besides, next TFL will have a different concept, so no worries ;)

x2c i know what do mean but tfl different with regular toram, i mean in farming boss. tfl bound by pvp it mean the win based on rank, the question how to win, its no problem anymore, just do the best possibility to get many rank right, u must analyse ur opponenent to win, and do the weak point of ur opponent, i think that nature of pvp, not regular farming. one more note, im mage with ability tanking (provoke), and support, i use it in everyday bossing, in fast run, i chase tanker rank and support, if not get tank, go get support, i play regular toram like that.

Seems like my posts bring the heat. Alright then.
TFL staff does a great job and I would be a noob to say otherwise. I stated my opinions on the matter of Mage Tier and there have been several quality responses from them and others. The bottom line is that TFL is PvP. Tactics that work in PvE do not work in PvP. My character is designed for PvE. I lost because I could not meet the demands of the competition with my character, plain and simple.

Despite the reward of 5m spinas, (and others) I did not think it was worth attempting to change my build with the resources available to me at the time. It would have meant nearly certain defeat for me because I was not prepared for a full change to my build. So I did the best I could with what I had, and lost 3-1 in the first round.

As for player mentality... there's nothing I can do about that. I post my opinion and my reasoning, and if you have an issue with it then be more specific.
I think I've already explained myself enough times. I didn't prepare for personal and situational reasons and I lost. That's just how things are.

I'm well aware if how much of a grind it is to level characters, tyvm. -.-
Yes, PvP does work like that, and I'm aware of that. I suggested that the demands of PvP be more in line with the demands of PvE. That suggestion was considered, but it seems that this version of TFL will remain the standard.

Play Toram however you like, and if it's working for you then good, it's working. I play Toram differently, that's all.
I'm not sure of it myself. When I was referred to as pro, it seems like it was a note of my opinions. I honestly don't know.

When you say PVE might you be referring as materials farming? Like b.nuts, mana mats mints m hearts etc... Well if thats the case your conventional mage is indeed kingly... I didnt mean to ridicule you but I still cant understand where your coming from. You saying this and that but then your claiming you understood and your wronged. This will be my last reply to this thread, but honestly bro you ! help. :)

    Here's where I'm coming from.

I noticed that Mages in TFL place priority on skills and tactics that are typically either situational, useless, or detrimental outside of TFL. I suggested to the TFL staff that Mage Tier be modified to place less emphasis on these strategies. It was considered, but ultimately rejected.

I understood what was necessary to win Mage Tier. I did not want to do that though, since it would have required me to make a character dedicated to TFL. (If I wanted to have the best chance of winning) So, I did the best I could with what I had. I participated because I had nothing to lose and exposure to other perspectives would prove beneficial to balancing my own.

    I appreciate your replies @Ph037536 , sorry if I don't make sense -.-"
