How is this possible?

I'm not an expert on statting and I'm currently creating my own armor. I'm trying to create my own c888 armor. So I already did gambled two armors both with 47pot. If I remember it correctly, there's only 60%+ chance of success. And then I saw someone selling c888 armor with 1pot unused.. How is that possible? Any input will surely be appreciated!

Add in the C888 stats one by one in three separate steps (Example A) instead of all three in a single step. (Example B)

Example A:
Step 1
Add in Crit Damage +8, Click ok (uses 24 pot)
> Armor 47pot - 24pot = 23pot

Step 2
Add in Crit +8, Click ok (uses about 9pot, estimated)
> Armor 23pot - 9pot = 14pot

Step 3
Add in Crit 8%, Click ok. (uses about 11pot, estimated)
> Armor 14pot - 11pot = 3pot

*Note:
> Adding the C888 stats in three separate steps reduces the amount of potential needed as compared to adding the three stats in a single step (uses 58pot) for stats belonging to the same 'Stat Tree'.


Example B:
Step 1
Add in Crit Damage +8, Crit +8 and Crit 8%, Click Ok (uses 58pot)
> Armor 47pot - 58pot = -11pot (56% chance of success)

*Note:
> Adding the C888 stats in a single step uses more Potential than that of Example A, this is so as Crit Damage 8, Crit 8 and Crit 8% all belongs to the same Stat Tree (Critical). Resulting in a penalty of more potential consumed when adding these three stats.
