question about resistance

if i had for example 75% physical/magical resist from my gear/MTL stat will it stack with the resist i get from protection/aegis skill
how does elemental resistances work? does it stack with phys/magic resist? if for example i have 80% phys resist and 30% fire resist and i get hit by a physical fire attack would it completely nullify it?

 

Mental stat doesnt give resistance anymore.damage wont be nulified just reduced like 50% if 100% resistance

 

MTL doesnt give physical or magical resistance, it never did.
Protection gives +30% physical resistance and -15% magic resistance this is added to the total same with aegis but reversed categories.

As for your question if you got 80% total physical resistance stat neglecting the one from refine (50% from stats 30% from protection) it will apply 50%, 30% reduction meaning 50% at first and then 30% on that result (Physical/magical/elemental resistance always shaves off at every 50% i.e. if it was 90% total it would be 50%, 40% if 120% it would be 50%, 50%, 20%)
Example:-
If you took 1000 physical damage as base 80% resistance would reduce it to 50%, 30% i.e. 500 first and then 30% reduced out of 500 i.e. 350 so 80% resistance gave a reduction of 65% instead of actual 80% coz it was more than 50%. Because of this shaving its impossible to reach 100% reduction by resistance alone. As for 30% fire resist it will be applied after physical resist i.e on the 350 after 80% physical resist was applied. So 30% reduction from 350 would give 245 damage.
Same with the resistance obtained from refine (Do not confuse it with physical/magical resistance as it is a seperate stat of itself). If you have +B armor, add and shield it will give 39% reduction which is yet again applied after elemental and physical so at the end 39% reduction is applied at 245 giving the end result 149.

+1% ailment resistance for every 3.4MTL

 

ahh i guess that explains it, i keep seeing MTL get recommended as a 2nd stat for most tank-build guides and most of them states that MTL gives res, i got curious on how piss easy it will be to get more than 100% res if that's the case and how OP it is and imbalanced.

thanks mayam for the informative post, does the resist that you get from DEF/MDEF just gets added to phys/mgc resist? how about guard power and sanctuary(im guessing this has a separate deduction too?) does their reductions get applied last?

No it doesnt.
MTL does NOT give physical/magical resistance. The video wherever they recorded they need to confirm enemy attack is 100% stable or else it is invalid also need to confirm that when comparing two chars both need to have exactly same defenses and resistances.
Also its not 3MTL = +1% ail resist it is 3.4MTL = +1% ail resist (same as CRT)

Send your friend/video here. I can debunk exactly why your friend might be taking less damage
