Staff Mage secondary wep question.

So when we have a staff equipped you have the second weapon available, does putting an m device there give us higher attack by any chance or is it for shields instead?

 

If you have staff equipped as the main weapon, it takes over the magic device, and this last one won't do anything. It won't save recharging time nor add any stat. I'd recommend using a shield if your build is tank-oriented or using the Ice Arrow if its dps-oriented, as this one gives 20% stability to ANY weapon, including the new high matk staff that has low stability. This means: Mace of Destruction + Ice Arrow = best combination.

 

Magic Devices do nothing. They technically act as a secondary weapon that allows for effective Magic use, but since a Staff is equpped, the Staff overrides the function of the M. Device.

I recommend Relief Shield (+300 HP) or Magic Dagger (+50 CSPD).

Edit: @Precaria beat me to it xD. And I forgot about Ice Arrow.

 

Bush Knife is better now (than Power Knife), it has Weapon ATK+10 (MATK+10 if using staff or m. dev.).

 

So much new content ^^ I'm glad that there a good number of build options now.

Yes it is crafted from 10 wet wood from water ghost on Nehelo Swamp and 10 Crystal of flowing water from Voda Roar at Lutaros Entrance

Not really, no. Tempest Arrow has no stability, and +Accuracy and +Critical Damage stats. All of which are useless to a Mage, regardless of build.

The reason why Ice Arrow is better is because of the +20% stability it gives. This additional stability applies to ALL weapons. For example, Ooze Staff (60%) with Ice Arrow (20%) adds up for a total 80% stability, which is fantastic for a DPS class. (Because they tend to have lower stability, 70% to 50%)

So no, Tempest Arrow will not suffice because it gives no stats to an INT/MATK-oriented Mage.

 

It says on my Tempest Arrow 20% stability however no stat boosts for mages so I guess I will craft Ice arrow.

 

Hmm, seems like I forgot that Tempest has 20% stability... I haven't tested it yet tbh. I'm currently busy with reworking my characters, so I suppose you'll have to find out yourself, or ask @Precaria to test for you.

 

Tempest has 20% Stab. but it doesn't work for staff. The only arrow that works with staff is Ice Arrow. If you want I can help you farm the materials with my mage. I need 1 MP+100 xtal anyway so I'm planning to go to Voda Roars (one of the mobs that drops the material for the arrow).

Are you sure that arrow works for all weapons?
I equipped one with a 1-H sword (80%) and I still get inconsistent damage output values.

 

I am not certain. @Precaria made the claim and I followed her information. I may be able to test this later with a Staff. Not sure about 1Hs though.

Perhaps try a Brutal Dragon Sword. It has 80% stability and Ice Arrow adds 20% stability. Also do not forget to consider damage drop-off in your observations. I say pay close attention to the first normal attack on two or more of the same enemy, and compare the damage from there.

 

That's exactly what I did. Ice arrow did not improve anything. Perhaps it's bugged?

 

@Shisa mentioned that Tempest Arrow has +20% stability just like Ice Arrow, but it has been claimed that Ice Arrow is the only one that works. Fair enough, we give it the benefit of the doubt. However, you have tested it, and it has made no difference, contrary to what has been claimed.

I doubt it's bugged. It likely does not affect stability. Care to weigh in @Precaria ?

 

Tempest bow actually says on it 'only when using bow' however ice arrow doesn't, I don't know if it being a boss drop has had any effect on this so maybe we should craft a tempest arrow to find out.

 

I'm really keen to find out.. Hmm I have to do some testing.
