Why is my MATK still low? What's wrong with my build?

Seems like I have low stability and damage is not that great. Just blew 20M on gear and xtals, and I'm really bummed to see that my damage isn't that much higher. (don't know why though because all the gear has better stats and I went from not a single slot of xtal to all xtals.)


Here's pictures of all my gear and stats. Tell me what I need to fix to increase MATK without needlessly expensive 2 slotted equips. I do have magic mastery and other magic skills maxed.

2k+ matk is already enough.
Damage depends on variety of factors ranging from your combo to boss defense.
If your combo isnt proration friendly of course it will show low dmg.
Also you should consider getting an ele staff set instead of expensive xtas. Ele weapon for magic attacks at least has a huge difference compared to neutral weapon. An ele staff will do 10% more damage even if your matk is 400lower than the neutral staff.

Tbh Dude that's umm high already, I think you need the right combos
Cos with that matk you should be doing great numbers

 

Oh I see, I thought mages didn't really need a lot of proration though, I guess I was wrong. It seemed to be common throughout all bosses, and I tried sweet spoon (+25% dmg on neutral bosses) on neutral bosses, similar thing, and also with the dropped fire sage staff on a few earth element bosses. Though those are drops and I'll try to save for player-made element staffs. Do you have any combo suggestions? When I dug into this thread topic I found a lot of them that had a bunch of martial skills, and I want to refrain from using that tree.

 

I tried several combos, but right now I'm using 2 combos from this thread topic that I found, because I suck at making combos.(though slightly tweaked because I haven't invested time in many shield skills)

Arrow>Javelin(save)>Impact(cons)>Storm)Smite)>Holy fist(cons)


This one seems to do the least amount of damage
Holy fist>wall(smite)>impact(cons)>storm(smite)>shield bash(cons

 

Show us your combo, also don't compare your output with dagger/arrow mage because they are dps.

Remember when you picked the shield, it's giving up a pinch of your dmg for survivability.

Also shield mages can't be dps? What can they be then? I've never seen arrow mage so Imm not sure how much damage they make.

 

You needa use shellbreak fam its real good with save tag on combo, for that mp regen

I only see magic damage. No wonder you're not satisfied with your dmg results. You need to understand proration. ^_^

 

Ah so proration is also within the combos and not just normal attacks before a combo? So I need to add physical skills to my combos like prev person said I need shell break ?

 

Perhaps martial tree is inevitable for shield mage because you only have shield bash and shield cannon to prorate. ^_^

 

If you wanna avoid martial tree you might want to use shield skills
Basically there's magic, physical and auto attack damage
Use magic damage and the other 2 increases in damage whilst magic damage lowers overtime

 

I highly suggest you go for dagger or arrow build if you dont prefer getting martial skills on your mage. They are higher dps than shield coz of having lot of long range physical skills in their combos they can create much better proration friendly combos than shield mage.

 

High guard rate + when casting is nice doe coz u don't get interrupted unlike evasion o.e
But yeah if your mad crazy about dps dagger is #1

Just a sample combo you can ponder. Though a dagger/arrow mage won't have that kind of trouble because they're really meant to dps.

(to some reply suggestions) unfortunately Im not really into the dagger/arrow Mage build (just preference, I made a bowgun char and I find it and the skills to be super boring to use), idk it's just boring to me compared to my 2H and Mage so I'm not sure if I'll enjoy it.

 

Then you got no choice but to get martial skills or have a prorating merc all the time in your party.
That angelus combo is outdated you should try combos listed in this build instead.
