well i made a chara with the info so far and thats like 1800 spina down the drain...it's not easy being a poor casual

 

For now, just get:

• Blade Skill Tree
• Survival Skill Tree
• Shield Skill Tree
• Guard Skill Tree (when you have enough spina)

Since you are just starting with only 1 character, start off with a regular swordsman.
Make a 2nd character as a Farming Mage (Int:Luk = 2:1) for farming materials and earning spina. This character will supply you the resources to equip your main Evade Tank character.

You say you are a beginner but how do you already have 8 character slots ._.

 

I'd suggest you narrow down the number and type of builds. I was in your position until recently. Then I decided to cut down to 4 battle actives or less plus 2 utilities (farmer mage & alchemist/refiner/tec bs) if I don't want to fatigue myself.

i guess first and foremost, you need to decide whether you are doing as brawler-based and have provoke as a panic button, or if you want to do a sword-base and include rage sword into your combo.

The 2 general suggests here are along these 2 paths and the debate is endless when it comes to which one is better. It comes down to what YOU want your character to be. @Islandi is legendary when it comes to tank builds, her knowledge and experience with tank is highly rated. However, she's pointing you toward the sword path, which I don't 100% agree when you wanted a 'dodgy' tank to begin with...

But then, that's exactly why what matters at the end of the day is what YOU want and what fits into your build plan.

 

Saphos, thanks for pointing out the 'dodge' part. Brawlers are naturally the best choice for dodging, because their primary stat is Agi and hence Flee. Swordies are not the best choice.

What is important is that, dodge isn't the only defense tactic. There are many layers of defense, if you have read through Mugami's threads about Dodging (Flee) and Evasion. There are 3 layers - Dodge, Evasion, Guard

• Dodge is effective against normal attacks when your Flee is higher value than mob's HIT. Else it's counted as a hit and Evasion is rolled according to proc rate (Total Evasion%).
• If mob's attack is a Crit, it bypasses your Dodge. Evasion is now rolled against the mob's crit attack.
• When your evasion% is low and boosts Guard instead, you rely on 2 factors - Guard Rate and Guard Power - to reduce damage taken.
• Dodge and Evasion are ineffective against magic attacks (as far as most of us have observed), because magic don't miss (100% HIT rate).
  Only Guard can proc and reduce damage.

Since we're only interested in NOT taking any damage by avoiding the mob's attacks, we'll be mainly looking at Dodge and Evasion.

Now, with that, which build can give high Dodge and Evasion? The brawler is the first choice since with high Agi stat, you have high Flee and Dodge.
Then equip gears and get skills that boost evasion. Now you have 2 effective layers of defense. With high evasion, your Guard rate is low and has no Guard Power, hence this layer can be considered ineffective. The very last layer is your HP.

 

Yeah, I've read through all the threads you guys have suggested and I'm going with a high hp and high dodge tank with shield, tank, and priest skills.
The base is a brawler and I got shield skills for the hp and the stun while I got priest skills for the heals and the punchy skill I also got provoke
i also have the survival skill tree at lv3. I wanted to get the modified armor skills but I ran out of money
So that's what I'm running with for now-or until I have more money

I do light armor with fw xtal and mirror shield add HP boost from survival skills tho I don't tank much because I don't use any arrgo skills or gear besides the shield but when I do take tank I evade alot and don't take much dmg

 

My way is a lil different, I use DW with mostly agi and invest sum vit=2k HP, sure that's not much but the agi pretty much covers all the problems. Feel free to comment, I like torturing myself to make a new char xD (jokin)

 

It's a lil late for me to change, but this seems ineffective since dw atks take forever to complete

I didnt knw force and magic shield gves a total of 1k hp.. I shud have it for my mage hohoho

 

you shouldn't give up on your char so easily lol, I partyd with @MoonHero dw tank at roga and he did an excellent job, didn't die or loose agro once in all the runs! dw can tank no doubt, maybe ask him for some advice *_-
