if you disconnect and then reconnect right away, it doesn't matter.
but if you disconnect and the map is re-loading after reconecting, it's the same as logging out and in, so the time counter is reset.

Best way to complete imo is to be in a map with few people and move your char every 30 min while doing something else (watching vids, doing hw). Do not change maps and don't attack/chat with npcs. Unless your internet disconnects periodically, you shouldn't worry too much about lagging out. You just need to stay 6 hours to get all skill points.

 

Maximum for gain free sp from consecutive online 6 hour, beyond 6 hour it's all droppled so it's better just aim 6 hour for free sp.

 

Try GB that's where I got mine though ma phn overheated at 5hrs
