A bit of advice needed

I've got two characters on my account. One (my main one) is a level 56 dual sword wielder, the other is a level 47 mage.

Now I have a few problems with these.
I'm quite new to the game, so I don't have much information.

Firstly, the problems with my dual sword wielder:

1. His DEF and MDEF stats are a bit low for my liking. Both are somewhere around 104. I'd like to know which equipment is the best to increase these two (or at least DEF) by a substantial amount while also not having any other bad effects.
2. His Max MP is only 350 or so, which is a real pain. I need an equipment that can increase his MP a lot, preferably without any side effects.

(Just for reference, the equipment I'm using for him right now are Brutal Dragon Sword [Main Weapon], Dark General's Sword [Sub-Weapon], Brutal Dragon Armour, Horns, Straye Badge.)

The problems with my mage:

1. Max MP is only around 400 or so, again, it's quite low. Need an equipment that can increase Max MP a lot.
2. I also want to know which is the best staff and magical device that I should use.

(Just for reference, the equipment I'm using for her right now are Minotaur Staff, Metal Wings, Brutal Dragon Armour, Snowflake Headband, Sofys Talisman.)

So yeah, a bit of help on these please.

Ok so, like def and mdef won't matter much if you don't get hit. I would suggest leveling up your mage wit the main quest exp because it can help you farm potions in the long run. Potions will be more important than def and mdef because the stats are for the people who own milllions of spinas and are able to afford high end gears. As for your mp and hp problem, I would suggest getting the survival skills lvl 2 from the library. You can get an extra 1k hp from the hp boost passive. You can also get an extra 300 mp from the mp boost passive. As for gears...you will need a money for the recommended ones. Around 2-5m will equip you with good gears. As a starter of the game, I would simply give you the advice of enjoying the story mode and appreciate the bgm and art before it's too late. ^^

 

Def and mdef has low dmg mitigation once reach 250+ so just aim near 250 and just refine ur add and armor as high as possible since each refine gives you 1% for phys/magic/fract resistance.

About mp you can increase it by getting mp boost skill to lvl 10 and xtals.

For neutral staff just use boss dropped bexiz and custom elemental for other elements(or just drops if you cant afford it).

 

For your dual sword:
Addgear recommendation is: fur hat: it gives 1k hp and 10crit rate... Very useful if your under geared and its cheap!!!
If your stingy enough; you can get it from snowball fight...

For mage... Add gear: Monocle is cheap enough as of now... and special gear a non-slotted philosophers ring is cheap enough

 

dual : buy strength or speed talisman IV which add 500 mp
mage : buy magic talisman IV which add 500 mp
well, of coz no slot coz cheap
otherwise, buy slot one which can be 1m++

 

Slotted Philosophers ring is much cheaper and better imo

- Try getting Killer Coat dropped by Roga boss (lv 62), it has good stats for starters
- Buy non slotted dex talisman at consignment board and find the cheapest for temporary

Mage
- Switch ur MagDev to Shield, u can get the shield from Excavated Golem near sofya as starter, its easy to kill and drops good shield for starting
