Oof, if want to farm the heck out of that whale i think its worth it. I'm pretty sure u can exchange 10 orb shards with 1000 witch points, with the maximum exchange of 100 times, free 10 orbs xD.

 

The best thing to get is probably the silk and paper pattern that comes after

After that is probably to spend points on Andeg which will probably lead to the nice hammers.
