Idk what to make

So I have an archer/hunter/bowman whatever u call it, but I was thinking about making a new character ( if anyone wants to make one w/ me c: ) but idk what class to choose but i dont wanna make another bow char. Also, I haven’t played toram in ages, but even so im a newb, so I don’t really know much about the game apart from juat doing story quests. Lf some ideas or for a teacher

the upcoming skill rebalance at the end of june will upgrade many of the unpopular lower tier skills, almost everything related to magic and it might break the impact decoy meta.
also, there won't be any free resets until the end of the year.

if you have never played a spellcaster, now is not the best time to start one. at the current state of the game, magic is the lowest ranking. if you are not a magic enthusiast, you should better wait for the update.

if you don't want another variant of bow or bowgun and are not a fan of magic, you have to adapt to close ranged combat.
positioning is very important here and you need to anticipate patterns and move around more than you had to with a bow.

swords are the easiest to learn, their skills are straightforward attacks and unconditional buffs and passives. it's very easy to use compared to other weapons.
1h swords have the greatest number of choices, as they have access to every skill tree and can be build in any direction.
2h swords are more simple and go all out on powerful attacks.
if you don't really know what to do, i would recommend the 2h sword.

 

O i c, hm, i guess ill try two handed, also, when i get some levels, stat points, skill points, etc. What should i try to ‘build’ with the melee class? Should I go with full dmg, full tank, or hybrid, and also, i tend to die a LOT, and I mean, a LOT. So I’ve been using mercenaries.

 

"full tank" is not possible with 2h, as the weapon boni for skills are all catered towards dealing more damage. so the only way to go is the "semi tank". raising hp with the VIT stat is also recommended in the weapon description (on your stat screen it says which stats work best for your currently equipped weapon type). those are not absolute, but very helpful for starters.

you don't have to play as a 'knight' and take all the hits, but you won't immediately die when you get attacked.
Astute is a very good skill, as it raises your critical hit rate by 50 for 10 seconds. Trigger Slash increases your mp recovery until you use another skill. this is very important for any 2h, since their attack speed is lower than 1h swords and they have no other skills to recover mp. (they do, but they all come with drawbacks. we can discuss this later)

dieing is normal, especially in boss battles.
you are supposed to fight them together with others. mercenaries are good, but they can't really replace a human player.
beware of mini bosses (boss monsters on the field). they look harmless, but some of them are stronger than the big boss monsters.

 

If you're going to go 2h, go do MQ until you get to carbuncle and try to farm that 2h. It is currently one of the best 2hs you can get, huge stability and crit rate.

I highly recommend 2h semi tank. It's very doable with Str Vit. Sanctuary allows you to stay in place for the most part and do some heavy damage without worrying. Heal is good as well.

the difference between Semi tank and full dps (str dex) is about 10% Attack from Dex or 15k HP, which honestly you can easily make up the attack.

 

Yeah its obv that the semi tank is better than 10%, since it’s harder to get HP than buffing atk imo. Ty for the advice C:

 

I recommend forgoing Berserk and Rampage if you take the semi tank route.

You can also get creative with the rest of your gear this way.

Super tanky mode -> Lil empress garb NPC (Ifrid) Jiangshi hat(handmade cookie) Mistletoe 2slot ring (Damage or AMPR)

Extra DPS -> Str Armor with ifrid, whatever damage additional you want, machina ring with damage xtas

Ampr -> Str Armor with Super Mushroom, love scarf with handmade cookie (I love handmade cookie), machina with deniala and tapir

Lots of routes you can take here as long as you get the carbuncle edge, which isnt even that hard of a drop.

 

Also there are equips that close that gap, one eye mask npc bs (att up 50% vit) also, beast talisman ( att up 5% vit), so in other words having a semi tank is doable and player friendly, which in your case is good since you’ll get to learn new boss patterns without feeling the consequences of the learning curve.

 

sakura chignon is also a fun item to have. 25pct chance to make your auto attacks do 75pct of your normal auto. with a nice healthy aspd boost.

 

Well, in the while that I’ve played MQ for, I’ve gotten myself a Lil Empress Greatsword for like 10k Spina, with 356 atk, so my atk power changes from 267 to 671, like it might be small, since im at the start of the quests, but at least I’ve gained quite a boost than before C:

okay do you have t4 skills? just breeze through the mq. at level 97 107 and 117 farm cerberus for exp. easy and huge exp.

 

Also make a refiner if you dont have one. just to get 255 tek
