Which one would be better? An orion's sword or the latest player stat katana? What I'm asking is whether its better to use orion's sword and just go ham with other stats on your other equips (maybe unsheathe and some other stuff), or is the player stat katana still better overall? Most people seem to prefer it.

As we can get 20 crit easily with the armor while keeping the atk, cdmg and cdmg%, player stat katana is better for general use. And you don't even need to put any crit xtals. There is also crit food buff. At level 8 it gives you 22 crit. The only thing that Orion is better is against neutral bosses. As for elemental bosses, elemental katana paired with elemental armor would be the best option albeit costly.

    Priorities:

    Overall:

Modestia > 4th Anniv Katana NPC > Orion's Sword > Elemental Katana > Player stat katana.

    To evasive bosses:

Orion's Sword > Modestia > 4th anniv katana NPC > Elemental Katana > player stat katana.

(I'm just a guy who stick into ultility more than damage)

Yes, that food buff is good, but I find it hard to rely on food buffs for stats, since once it runs out your crit is gone too lol. Also, this is the answer my guildmates told me too hahaha, thanks

Yes, that's what I saw in your guide too. It's actually what made me question in the first place since in your guide (and here in your reply), orion is ranked higher than a player stat.

Can I ask, can you explain to me what advantages you think the orion could have?(edit: other than high dmg against neutral hahhaha)

Orion's Sword has more anticipation rate (15%) than any other katanas which will make you hit evasive bosses much more easier (especially P.Avatar), less dodge (-50) = easier to use Zantei Settetsu. The only cons is the light resistance reduction (which is pretty much lethal to non - GSW user). And depends on situations too, just switch to weapons that fit your current situations the most because no katana is the strongest after all.

Because elemental katana doesn't provide enough pp/ crit rate/ ampr/ aspd/ anticipation rate. High damage on those weak bosses/ minibosses sure is nice to satisfying self/ showoff to everyone but to ultimate bosses with high armor (Zelbuse, Eroded Pilz, Crystal Titan, Maton Sword,...) or high evasion rate (P.Avatar/ Ornlarf/ Bubble Bogey), those number are just simply inferior to them. You can test it by yourself too.

Hmmm can you elaborate? On high def boss how is it better with modeista than an ele weapon which gives 25(+10)% damage toward the boss (considering you have player crafted weapon) ???

If you say critical rate then from the armor + shaved ice hat + food buff+ weapon stat+ stat is well over 100 and ampr you also have food buff + ampr from ava+ sukuchi(rn I have recover 100mp per AA) asdp is easy with gsw and if you think your strike grazes and not crits due to anticipation rate then you should re-research what you have learnt in this game till this date. :)
PS yeah about the high def boss I am also confused at what to do I guess it's perk of different weapon to perform it's best on different situations.

He just likes versatility over damage. Elemental katana is the best on suitable condition, but they're pricey if you want to have all the elemental weapons fully refined and slotted. Modestia is the best general use katana due to its aspd and ampr= more versatile. By general use I mean you can use it to solo stuff. But by no means you can perform significantly better on high difficulty bosses compared to elemental. Zelbuse, zahhak and other high def boss on ultimate diff would still require garyou tensei to deal significant damage if not any. For example zahhak still got 6000 def on ultimate diff even when stunned/poisoned. Your modestia would do no favor in getting the job done, other than having higher motion speed and ampr. Elemental would give better damage with garyou for sure.
I agree with the rank order but I disagree with your reasoning. If its about cost to performance ratio, modestia would have the best return for the lowest cost. But its in no way better than elemental katana when the favorable condition is met. On high def bosses like maton, zelbuse and zahhak, their sheer defense on ultimate difficulty would still force you to rely on garyou's 100% pierce. Elemental katana would still perform better when you compare it to modestia. Crit is simply not an equation now that you can have food buffs and crit armor that retains damage potential. You're just being too biased to the damage loving freaks. They do great job when it matters.

Lets say you have a fully competent party, a tank that could inflict dizzy on the boss with meteor breaker, a cf user that constantly deal armor break with their snipe, and an elemental burst mage with gsw that deals magic proration and have high damage output. You would complement them well if you have your own elemental set.

100 ampr with shukuchi is very low fyi, I have 210 ampr when both shukuchi and kaikiri is on (110 for non ampr) and believe me, those ampr don't even enough for you to sustain Seele/ Tuscog/ Ornlarf, you can try placing decoy and then whoop, they always move far away from your decoy.

Here is another example of Modestia is still superior to other katanas when it's about killing bosses that move alot.

You can see the difference between 30% motion speed and 50% motion speed, that's why the more aspd, the more powerful the katana could be.

E.g: When no potions/ buffs are applied

When you have 900 aspd, 3 stacks of GSW is on, you will have about 900 + 900 = 1800 ASPD + 30% motion speed = 33% (roundowned), which is very low that you won't be able to cast the second Tenryu Ransei immediately after the First Tenryu Ransei > AA > because there will be a small gap of time for the first Tenryu Ransei and the second one (the sheathing animation).

When you have 1900 aspd, 3 stacks of GSW is on, you will have about 1900 + 900 = 2800 ASPD + 30% motion speed = 39% (roundowned), at this point, you won't be able to see the small gap time anymore. So Modestia win at this point. If you ask some other pros, they will always say Modestia is the best one, next is 4th Anniv NPC/ Orion, and then elemental > player stat one.

Graze happens when your accuracy is lower than the boss's dodge stat, not from anticiapte. I don't even know if you are trolling at this point or not. Anticipate means your attack will always bypass evasion, and perfect aim or your hit stat higher than the boss's dodge by 300 will make your attack always strike even though that attack don't have critical strike on it . Which make Orion's Sword is the biggest enemy to evasive bosses.

You can see how easy it is to kill P.Avatar when having high anticipation rate, other katanas don't have high anticipation rate and that would make killing P.Avatar much harder and slower.

About pp. Here is the best result I can do with 4th Anniv Katana NPC

I have this excel file that calculate my damage on bosses. So that's why my ranking wil be pretty hard to believe to everyone.

You are right about this part. I mostly play solo so my recommendations on choosing katana/ armor would be pretty much different to everyone else (The last time I leveling, I have to kill about 300 Zelbuses and 400 or 500 Mardulas to cap 5 chars to 205).

Thats a useful spreadsheet, thank you.

As katana have relatively low base atk, the line between being effective and not is pretty thin. It not only depends on your gear, but also your party setup and boss stats/pattern. The difference between 1 slot medium budget gears and 2 slot fully refined weapon with the xtals is more apparent than other weapons. When you have 2k atk with 1 slotted gears and 2.7k atk with 2 slots, your performance and playstyle will vary greatly, because katana's damage is dependent on modifiers more so than simple atk/def difference. The difference of having to rely solely on garyou/armor break and being able to deal decent damage of tenryuu without pierce or armor break.

We should instead focus on the overall setup rather than weapon alone. You don't need ampr setup on stationary boss, you don't need p. Pierce on low def bossss, you don't even need unsheathe on extremely high def boss as you'd be forced to rely on garyou's 100% pierce. Having all the setups would be the most ideal. Elemental is still the one with highest damage potential. With buffs, something like 44% motion speed is achievable even without modestia. 25%+20% extra damage is just that great, you can compensate the weakness with the other gear slots and look for the critical point.

Garyou is quite underrated. It has a similarity with dragon tooth with their 100%pierce which would take out def out of the calculation. An elemental setup with garyou is formidable for any boss. We also have bouncing blade now, and its quite a big deal. A no proration katana skill that have relatively short animation time that has low mp cost. Doing garyou frequently becoming easier.

Let me correct myself, zahhak's 6000 def is without stun/poison, with the ailments its only 2100.

Most people would only reach 62% pp without additional pp from avatars.
