The idea of this build came from two places, my overwhelming love of Paladin type warriors and I hated the fact that none of my tanks I ever built on Toram could do much besides take dmg and have high health. Meatshields are only fun for so long, and I felt like I was never doing enough to help my party. I also wanted to use the skill rage sword, as I hardly ever see it being used in builds, which is astounding because it hits like a truck and gives aggro. I also generally don't like the idea of Staff and Shield users, just my thing.

With all that Being said, this is all untested atm, as I'm still leveling this character, so far so good, but advice and input is always appreciated. Some things are still not definitive for the build either, as you will see. This is all pretty much a large theory craft/plan of mine where you are more than welcome to vocalize your opinions and share your thoughts/knowledge with me.

    Stats:
    Str/Dex: 1:1 ratio
Possibility of adding in SOME Vit if I see it being needed, most of your HP/Defense will come from HP Boost/Shield Skill Boosts & Gear.

Skill Points Used in total: 129 (80 cap & all emblems/bonuses)

    Blade Skills: 5-10 SP's used.
    Hardhit: 5/10-10/10 (still deciding)
Astute: 0/5-5/10-10/10 (not needed, personal preference, future growth of build as lvl cap is raised)
Trigger Slash: 0/5-5/10-10/10 (not needed, personal preference, future growth of build as lvl cap is raised)

Thats it! BUT WHAT ABOUT SWORD INCREASES!!!!! Cried everyone! No, we'll for go them and possibly spend SP's later down the line in Battle Skill tree. Reason is, as you take points in these skills, you lose 1% stability each point. See Megumi's info on it.

    Shield Skills: 40-45 SP's used.
Shield Mastery: 5/10 (possibly 10/10 if i see a huge need for it in the future)
    Shield Bash: 5/10 (pre req)
    Shield Canon: 5/10-10/10
Force Shield: 5/10-10/10 Full or spend additional points into Protection/Aegis
Magical Shield: 5/10-10/10 Full or spend additional points into Protection/Aegis
Protection: 5/10-10/10 Full or Spend additional points into Force/Magical Shield
Aegis: 5/10-10/10 Full or Spend additional points into Force/Magical Shield

Shield Canon hits hard and from afar, plus a stun. With bosses running around et cetera having a ranged stun is useful, so is the DMG. The Shield Skill tree opens you up to even more health, and as a tank, you want to be able to take a hit. So I have two options for you, max out Force and Magical shield and partly spend points in Protection and Aegis, or do the oposite, and max Protection and Aegis while only partially spending points in Magical/Force Shield. You could also dive all in and spend 60 SP's here. I will say that having a magical/"holy" shield around me makes me feel a lot more like a Paladin.

ALSO IF SOMEONE COULD GET BACK TO ME WITH EXACTLY HOW MUCH PROTECTION AND AEGIS INCREASE DEF/M.DEF & THE FACTORS INVOLVED WITH IT THAT WOULD BE GREAT!!!

    Knight Skills: 21 SP's used.
Assault Attack: 1/10 (Distance Closer, slow, why not, helps control mob)
Provoke: 10/10 IS A MUST FOR ANY TANK!
Rage Sword: 10/10 Skill I wanted to use.

Assault attack for the distance/gap closer, plus the added effects of a possible tumble and slow is great for controlling a mob, might brings to five or ten SP's used. Provoke, can we talk about it? I have been in a party numerous times on a DPS class where someone says they can tank, and then lose's agro/can't tank. I'll ask if they have provoke, and most often then not, they do not. Don't have it, don't say you're a tank. Rank 10 so it only costs 200mp, this will be the first thing you cast upon entering battle, and will set up your tankdom. Rage sword, does DMG and adds aggro, you'll be using it every few seconds and it will grab and add aggro, won't have to use provoke unless you lose aggro or at the start of the battle.

    Survival Skills: 15 SP's used.
Safe Rest: 5/10 (Pre Req, good for after battles)
HP Boost: 10/10 (Increases your HP, you're a tank, this is good for you)

    Magic Skills: 23-26 SP's used.
    Arrows: 5
    Javelin: 5
    Lances: 5
MP Charge: 1 (Great for after battles)
    Impact: 7/10-10/10

This is where the build gets it's Paladin type feel, a bit more utility and DMG. Along with all this, it sets up your DMG and Combo's. MP Charge, for after battles mostly, ending combos possibly. Impact sets up a lot for you, namely a tumble. Along with the tumble, you get the great addition of your next spell costing HALF* its regular cost. It also sets up a weakness to Physical DMG, by doing MGK DMG. That and when you put it into a combo with SAVE, you'll be doing a lot for small price.

"Unleash a flash of Light, your "Holy Vengance" and empower your character, toppling over your foes, and making them get on their knees before your holy brilliance."

*Half rounded up, 300 MP skill halved is 150 mp, you use 200 MP though.

So looking at your character now, you should have 3k+/- hp and some great ways to negate dmg coming into you as well as some great ways to pump out some DMG as well, while still maintaining aggro of the Boss or Mob(s). You'll have an AOE tumble, that deals magic DMG and saves you some MP and setting up your Physical DMG as well. and some left over skill points.

Didn't you say this would use all 129 though? I did and it should though your choices affect that outcome, did you go for bubble shields ala Protection and Aegis or did you go for increased health Via Force and Magical Shield? Did you max Hard Hit? Impact? Until an 85/90 level cap I'm sad to say that this build will have some SP spending options, until you can round out all the skills that I can see myself and others wanting/needing.

    Combo's:

Though I'm still testing the build and all attacks are not added to the build yet (depending on some further playing of it and hopefully viewer input) I do have some basic ideas of what these will be. Or at least a few.

    1. Assault Attack(none)>>Impact(consec)>>Rage Sword(smite)>>Shield Canon(consec)
    2. Hard Hit (none)>>Impact(save)>>Shield Bash(consec)>>Rage Sword(smite)>>Shield Canon(consec)

    Gear:
At this time I'm currently using:
    Rapier
    Relief Shield
    Scale Armor
    Knight Helmet
    Mistletoe Talisman

Slotted Obviously, but only with 100+mp/HP Xtals. Better boss dropped ones would help immensely, but alas I'm poor atm.

    THE FUTURE:

Once level cap increases, we can slowly grab more and more skills fully that we would want and possibly grab more skills that would help us increase our DMG, such as Battle Skills! We could also increase our health a bit more, if you haven't already, and we could increase our shielding! We could add in additional Blade skills too, such as Astute and Trigger Slash, adding in some additional DMG and MP regen. I'd also like to add something to heal with, via the support skill tree's mini heal eventually.

Thanks for now and tell me what you think.

When I first saw staff-type-meat-shield-eat-damage-and-heal-it-back type of tanks, I was amazed how well they work. But I am old-school, so my idea of tank is similar to yours.

    I have 2 suggestions, if I may:

STR + DEX may be good for the time being, however, if you look at the possibility of maxing 3 stats end game (like Iruna), you would probably want DEX + VIT + MTL versus STR + DEX + VIT.

Stun has a long cooldown so having Shield bash and Cannon is redundant, so when more SP is available, I'd suggest swapping Shield bash (after Impact) to Spiral Air (Consec), I am pleasantly surprised to see the use of a Smited Rage sword ^^

    Good luck with you build.

Thanks! And yeah maybe I have an old school idea for this guy, but hey why not hehe.

And that was the hardest thing in terms of making a combo, whether or not the stuns are going to overlap/not work together. In the future I was planning on grabbing another skill such as astute/trigger slash, hopefully that will help on multiple levels for the build. Any reason you suggested Spiral air?

As far as the stats, I picked str/dex so that it would be hitting and doing some dmg. Overall idea is to have a tank that will take most g just fine will being able to do some dmg. Otherwise I would have done what you suggested, or int/vit/dex to raise Mdef and Def.

As of the Jan 14 maintenance, they have uped the damage of Spiral air. Also, the main reason for Spiral Air is that it hits 10 times and flinch about 5 times in between, as soon as the cooldown for flinch is up. Fitting that into your combo, hard hit, Impact and Spiral air will create some serious control on boss movement and let you cancel red zones to keep your party members save.

Afaik, protection and aegis lv only increase the duration, but if someone can clarify it, I will be grateful.
As for the build, can u please make a video of it in real battle? I'm a bit curious about how u use provoke, a high mp skill for 1h, and long combo. Because in my experience, getting longer combo can burns ur revits as u get hit by mobs while controlling the bosses.
Nice idea though, but IMO hard hit lv 10 with proper set up can nearly controlling the boss perfectly if timed well (ex:Empress)
I'm open for discussion as I have similiar build http://toramonline.com/index.php?threads/understanding-concept-behind-1h-builds.7448/

looking forward to see the progress of your build.
BTW shouldn't you also need atleast one healing spell? Paladin always had those. just my thoughts on this.

As I don't know the particulars of Aegis and Protection myself, I can only go by using them in the past vs. not using them, and I can say that I definitely can feel the difference of when they are in use and when they are not. I would love some clarification though on how and what they work off of.

I would love to, I'll have to look up how to do that and get back to you with doing so.

As for a long combo, I know your point, but this guy will be using a lot of "stun locking" albeit stun, tumble, pushback, and flinch. This method is used on another build I have and like playing, its a lot like a brawler. You stop them from performing their attacks. The combo itself might seem long, it's all over quiet fast, and you stop them while doing it. Stun all by itself has a pretty long duration, couple that with everything else and it's a pretty safe bet.

I started reading your build but BF is making me farm with him, I will get back to you asap though on what I think!

    Cheers.

Haha yes, paladins do heal, but currently due to lvl cap and SP placement, I opted to wait.

"Once level cap increases, we can slowly grab more and more skills fully that we would want and possibly grab more skills that would help us increase our DMG, such as Battle Skills! I see your point,
Maybe adding the skills acquisition on each every 10 lvls will be helpful as u spend all of the skill points, so it's rather hard to choose which skills first to get.
Btw how much mp u used on that combo and how much is ur max mp?

    indeed
Paladin build nor Knight build doesn't need to be rushed.
Mana management is also required. don't forget Armor skill.
only one heal is needed but tbh it should be optional choice ATM. probably by the time at Lv150 (who knows when it will be released), we'll definitely see some results.

BTW what's the stats of Relief Shield and its drop location?
can you list down some gears with aggro boost?

3mp for the first one, 1mp for the second one, thought the first hits harder, the second hits for normal dmg%.

And skill acquisition is the hardest part for this build, its honestly the worst thing. Starting out with 23 SP's to use does help though. The first character I made like this, I went and got HP and Shield boosts, I leveled it to about 20 until I realized it was the wrong path. Nothing could kill it, but it took forever to kill anything. Second time around, I got 5 HH, then 5 Provoke, and ten Rage Sword. Leveling went smoothly, and from there I started filling out Shield Skills and HP Boosts. I suggest Impact being the LAST skill you go for, as it's only an addition to the build and not something that is needed until later on (around 50-60).

I actually deleted this build again last night as SOMEONE, nudge me and caused me to misplace Stat Points on him...So I get to build again from the ground up...

I'm going to make him boost me and farm Nisel wood, rawr.

Hey, sure thing, the stats are:

    Relief Shield:
    Dark res +5%
    Max 300HP
    Guard Rate +9%
    Guard Power +30%

And as for aggro boosting gear, don't worry with it, through the use of Provoke at start and using rage sword/long combos you hold aggro, no if ands or buts about it. I'd be more inclined for you to get Guard rate/Guard Power/HP/Attk Up gear than aggro gear.

BD Cape, has guard rate 5%, mp 200, and 10% aggro, that's what I'm using.
Yeah, I imagined it before that making this build is no easy task as the skills needed for a complete paladin is a lot.
And we haven't got much knight skills yet, so anything can happens.
I appreciate your seriousness though coz we do lacking tanker lately, while bosses getting stronger is maybe a sign of new era later.

Haha thanks! And yeah, tanks are definetly going to be needed in the next few coming bosses, seems like something people are already asking for.

So I got my new one to level 47, thanks Bnut! But I decided to grab impact ahead of what I said and it's actually not half bad for leveling, basically have a mini version atm of what the build will be at 80+. Need to grab some more HP ups via the shield skills and still get Assault Attack, but I'm liking what I have atm, fighting ooze and tanking to get my combo up.

Also a slotted BD cape might be amazing, I'll have to look into making/purchasing one.

Hi, i'm thinking of adding these alongside my usual full consec combo, just asking for suggestion

    ShieldBash + WarCry(Save) + Gloria(Swift) + TriggerSlash(Swift)

Use 100mp(?), meant to be used at start of the fight. The Gloria is useful as timer for the next stun for me(which means i'll re-cast the combo again unless my team doing speedrun) and i suppose buffing teammates makes you look more paladin-ish maybe? never tested it tho.
