It's all fun and nice till an extent. This sort of thing can get kinda messed up though when they take it too far and it gets ugly irl. Happened to me with a girl who used to play Celes, Iruna and alpha in Toram. Not gonna tell what happened but I'm glad I pulled out before poop got real e.e

There is no wrong way to find love, if u seek love make sure u seek it with intelligence and kindness, every negative thing that happens gives u a chance to turn it into a positive, the negative things may be hard but dnt let the darkness swallow u, turn it around and let it strengthen ur emotions and ur will to see others smile, things happen for a reason and we often wish it didnt but look in the mirror and smile at urself for being here today, the past made u, the present guides u and the future makes u think if u could improve, but remain happy and keep the ppl u hold dear close, make the effort and dnt feel broke like a half of a whole

    Hi Amei!
Firstly wowza! Luckily I'm married and don't seek anything other than a good laugh on here. However there seem to be some serious folk about! I have made two amazing in game buddies thus far. Without them I'd still be running about like a headless chicken!

However back when I was younger I played an online game via pc. I had similar issues and understand your troubles.
It is hard to find genuinely nice people.
I pretty much now consider myself to be mother hen in toram

    Keep smiling!
    Jen (Aneira)

Ha-ha yeah it takes that one person to change your entire view upside down lol. To me it doesn't matter if the person is in another continent or country -what matters is how that person makes you smile, makes you laugh and laughs at your derpyness, sits and talks with you for hours , and puts up with your irritating habits tooXD .
An btw its good to see you back you've been offline for so long^~^, PS* its bow-guy

For me, "dating" is just puppy love role-play. Though I am blessed when I meet great friends through all the shenanigans. My guild mates are the ones that I give the most credit to, for awhile I wanted to leave Toram (just got bored) but they really stuck like glue to me and I'm glad because I wouldn't be where I am now without them.

Oh & I've met couples (irl) that plays together and honestly it's the cutest. ^_^

I think you can make amazing friends on here Amei,
Puppy love is fine, I'm going to go all maternal and plead you just be careful!
But I think your post is great and something that needed to be read!
If you ever need an agony aunt feel free to shout
My husband is a huge football fan and works ridiculous hours running his business.
If I asked him to play online, he would say he'd rather go to work

    Hello Amei,

Was like scanning briefly through threads and chanced upon yours which really interested me.

I would like to think that most people who play online games (myself included) would prefer some form of social interaction, otherwise it would honestly feel like any other offline game. I have tried playing a game (mstar) on a Taiwan server once and due to my awful knowledge of the Chinese language, found myself to be not interacting much at all, and honestly, it was very boring and dreary for me. After about a month or two I stopped playing that. I think it's only human to seek out and crave for interaction, love and understanding from others. And when we do find such a person amongst so many others that clicks so well with us, we get drawn even more. I just saw a film the other day and I'll shamelessly post a excerpt from it.

"So much of our experience is intangible. So much of what
we perceive cannot be expressed. It's unspeakable.
And yet, you know, when we communicate with one another
and we feel we have connected and think we're understood…
I think we have a feeling of almost spiritual communion.
And that feeling might be transient, but I think it's what we
    live for."

I myself have played a couple of MMOs and actually have had online relationships on a couple of them, Maplestory, Audition, Pirate King Online, Talesrunner, etc. Like you, I met a boy in Maple when I was a teenager and we got in a online relationship just based solely on his question of 'wanna be my gf?' Unlike the guy you met, he was alright at first, not particularly nice or sweet in fact I remember him to be more of an Donkey (apologies to the Animal species for insulting it), like seriously, he got displeased as I levelled faster than him (rolls eyes). I had my second online relationship with another guy in Maplestory after that and that one lasted pretty long and we got married online in Maple (they had that whole marriage system… which I believe earned them quite some nice revenue), that online relationship lasted through several games and all but it fizzled in the end as well. To this day, I think he is the only guy I found sweet. That said, he too partook in various creative acts, well… online that is (something similar to typing out actions and all). I didn't think of him as a pervert actually and I just typed accordingly, after all typing stuff out isn't going to hurt anyone. We even had our occasional online quarrels which lasted into the night. (PS. I flunked my exams due to this guy which now looking back was kinda funny a choice I made)

There are those who would think that an online relationship is like a game in itself, but I would beg to differ, at times it would feel almost real (I had my fair shares of tears, I guess I invested my emotions heavily too), since it is ultimately the interaction of two individuals (even without physical interaction) and that happens too in real-life, when you talk to someone, when you go out with someone, it is the exact same interaction (minus the occasional killing of dragons and what not). After all, it is the inside that makes someone who he or she is. I have always felt that the virtual world sometimes mirrors our real world, the types of people, their characters and etc. So like our real-world, you would not truly know someone until you spend more time with that said individual, then slowly you will start to notice the 'flaws' appear one by one. And for someone whom you thought was sweet, later down the road you might actually realise that he or she is actually an Donkey in disguise (once again apologies to the actual animal). We usually see the pretty and nice things initially, the ugly stuff only comes out later :x. Meeting someone new is always exciting.

However that said, in my opinion, I would say that every MMO is more or less similar. In almost every online game, we will meet new people, some fun, some interesting and some you just hate to the core (let's not talk about the last type of people and keep the whole energy nice). As time goes by, you will have a lot of fun with these people, share memories and all but ultimately at the end, it fizzles as well. I made a great deal of friends in my first ever MMO in Maplestory, and over time, one-by-one the buddies eventually started quitting, some had other games to commit to, others had real-world commitments like school and jobs. Before you know it, your buddy list which used to be bustling with life and full is now empty. I played Maple for about two years before I stopped, I only played it due to the community, the online friends. The same happened for the other game I played to, AuditionSea, a rhythm and beat MMO which I played casually for about 7–8 years now. There I met a lot of people as well, the quirky, the fun and etc. Had a couple of online relationships there as well but the ones there never lasted (the whole online relationship community there was very erratic), some 'family members' too (I think the whole calling each other family thing was quite big then) and my whole gang of dears 爱爱s and stuff as well (which I dragged around with me and to gossip with). Again over time they too vanished, bit by bit and I believe that is only natural, it isn't exactly the most pleasant but it happens. Not only in virtual worlds, but sometimes even in our real-life as well. I guess it's a process of life. Some friends you lose and while some stick around. With time, you might get even jaded by this process too (not sure if that is actually a good thing), and I think that's probably how I feel about it right now, maybe you'll get a different answer.

As for relationships with best friends, I too have been down that road in both the virtual and the real-world so I personally think it is ok. In fact it might feel strange at first when you start doing more couple-y stuff, but then you would also have someone that more or less knows what you're thinking and understands you (note that I said 'more or less' as best friends and relationships are still ultimately different and what understanding you thought you might have might not be the case) However, the one thing most people do fear is that you might lose your best friend when that relationship goes sour. I think that depends on the both of you, it might or might not, and on the way you two decide to end the relationship. Pretty much the same as a normal ended one I would believe.

I hope you find your online relationship the way you want it in the end and yes I do believe that it can work out. Just don't feel too upset by the in betweens and bumps along the way.

    Shall give you magic (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧

    Regards,
    Fina.
