1h Tank vs Brawler Tank

Hi people - I was going through @athena__ 's 1h tank build and @Precaria 's brawler tank build, and wonder what are the differences between the two builds?

They look very similar to me and I didnt know how to give advice to a friend who's new to the game and wants to be a tank

P.s ah and I saw precaria put stress on the build that it's a guild maze tanker, I would assume that a 1h tank could do the same as well as the brawler tank?

 

Precaria's tank is outdated. Go with Athena's.

Well there is a difference in the weapons. The biggest differences would be like knuckles have shell break for mp recovery while for 1h I use quick draw. Knuckles provide options for guard break and can tumble.

1h overall have the option to be quicker without adding agi. Using trigger slash we can make slow cast skills like sanctuary faster and have better ampr by putting trigger slash at the end of combos also helping mp recovery and prorating. 1h also has higher aggro overall as there are the options to use rage sword and binding strike.

Those are just some examples. Both can be great tanks it just depends on your playing style and what you are most comfortable as a weapon.

But since you are asking, i would say precaria's build is a spammer. And in my honest opinion tanks dont spam.

A tank that spams is worse than a dps spammer coz it doesnt contribute to any damage as well. Tanks are supposed to let others spam, hold aggro and keep prorating all at the same time else they are not required anywhere.
If it doesnt spam it cant hold aggro against bg spammer at all which is yet another cons.
Just like what athena said 1h has trigger slash which means it can effectively make quick combos causing an incredible aggro per second generation.

I am not saying knux in general is bad. I have made both types of tanks in the past. To make fast combos just like 1h, knux need to use skills like impact and war cry which precaria's build doesnt have either. Its just a mindless spam tank that will still lose aggro to a gun fu or sword fu if it missed a shell break proc, survivability wise as well i really doubt it will be able to survive an ulti gem jade.

@athena__ 's tank is a clear winner in my eyes. But if you still wanna use knux tell your friend to make a forums acc and pm me so that i can give him pointers.

 

different weapons use different stats and have access to different skills and/or get different effects on the skills.

 

Both are good tho.
Drill and toy hammer are the key for each tank build. I have seen many knuckle tank and sword tank in countless gem run. Both are equal.
Its just prec's build is outdated rn.
Many ppl out there have alrd improve their knuckle tank to adapt recent update. Its just not documented in this forum.

Thanks for this too Mayam! I didnt know that knuckle tank needs to spam combos to hold aggro and yes I totally agree with you that it isnt ideal when tanking requires spamming. I will let you know if my friend has further questions with regards to this

 

A brawler tank needs to spam to hold aggro while a 1h shield has tanking skills to hold aggro, they don't need to spam and will only need to cast this high aggro combo just incase somebody tugged the aggro or in good interval not to lose aggro. ^_^

 

I really like full agi brawler shield tank. Their main weakness is aggro holding if they can work around with it then they can do everything. Prorate at full speed, dodge all sorts of dangerous attacks and still deal decent amount of dps if done right. Not an easy build to make thats for sure but really worth it.
Though for a full vit build i think knux is losing its grip against staff and 1h. As in theres very few things that knux can do which 1h/staff cant when full vit is concerned.

Each build got pros and cons. Regarding agro generator, yes 1H is better than knux.

But to me personally, tanker isnt only about holding agro, but 'protecting' your party. In this case, knux is better than 1H since they got many interrupter skills (ex: sonic wave which can be done from 20m away or smash with 100% flinch chance if you're close to the boss).

Ex: I have knux shield, and you can call me spammer, but I will always interrupt Tapir whenever he casts the blue AOE to one of my pt members. Cause you know it's deadly for non tanker class.

 

1H+shield got interrupt skills too. Hardhit > impact (save) > triggslash (smite) 1mp. And we got stun and knockback with slow too.

 

I know, but the flinch chance (from hardhit) isnt 100%, the thumble chance (from impact) isnt 100%. Try sonic wave lv 10 and flinch lv 6 and you will see. But yeah, sometimes it got evaded (even using drill). FYI, knockback doesnt cancel boss skill. Even knux has assault attack too.

Plus we got binding strike to support guardian on keeping the aggro of multiple boss/minibosses.

Hmmm not quite sure coz my tank sometimes beat dw on breaker and i did beat a knuck before in imitacia on a breaker duel just for fun
