    How do I get Crow Killer to drop Broken Linen Thread and Death Hound to drop Black Fur?
    Is it entirely luck based or is there any mechanic around the drops I'm not aware?

    entirely rng. the drop rate usually decreases the lower the item is on the list. the expected standard set for materials is 50/25/10%.

    make sure you have free space in your bag to receive items and that you are at the correct location.
    some monster species appear in different maps but with different drops. for example, you won't get black fur from death hounds in lost town or dark dragon shrine.
